Have a friend coming in town for a small wedding party. They are looking for a good Cajun restaurant, jambalaya, etoufee, gumbo etc. They are not wealthy and while I could think of a few ideas, I'm just looking for more. Dinner and lunch places that are easy going and good. Thx

Toups or Cochon, and they both rock.

My top suggestions would be the same as Otis's. However, you may want to consider Remoulade, which is the casual side of Arnaud's. It's not likely to be as good as the other two, but the prices may be more attractive to your friends and it will serve the purpose.

Felixs jambalaya is wet, white and had 2 pieces of sausage and no chicken when my wife ordered it. She learned really quick not to order jambalaya in NOLA. My shrimp po-boy and oysters were pretty good.

If they want CAJUN gumbo/jambalaya in NOLA, you may need to identify which restaurants make those dishes without tomatoes.

I think Remoulade will be red jamba, but Nola is not the place for brown jamba.

As others have mentioned Cochon, KPaul's, Toups, and Bon Ton will be the best of the best. However, you are probably looking at a $75 meal for two people at these places, unless you intentionally order lightly/cheap.

Send them to maspero's and they will love saying they went there.

It's a tourist trap but it's fine and cheap.

Crescent City Brewhouse is surprising good for what it does too.

I've never heard of this place, and when I looked it up found Maspero's as well as Pierre Maspero's. Which one is the tourist trap? Or do both have that claim to fame?

I'm a big fan of Jacques-Imos and I would say it's more creole than Cajun but it hits all the right spots and not very expensive with a casual atmosphere

Used to be Pierre maspero's was the tourist trap and Cafe Maspero was the good spot. But creole concepts owns them both now, so cafe Maspero is far from what it was. Used to be cash only, cheap prices, big portions, bikers running the kitchen. Now it's more expensive, smaller portions, fancy computer systems etc.
