The owner of Galatoire's restaurant on Bourbon Street has announced plans to open a new branch in Baton Rouge next year.

John Georges says the 200-seat, 6,000 square foot restaurant will be located on Perkins Road at the Acadian Thruway. The new dining establishment is expected to open by Christmas 2012.

There are two cities in this world in which a Galatoire's could be successful. New Orleans, for historic reasons. And Baton Rouge, for reasons I will leave you to contemplate.

the original galatoire's bistro up here sucked. the chef sucked and the food was just average. I had heard they were going to move to a new location and reinvent themselves.

Why did the first attempt in BR fail?

Part of it was location. The CCL crowd can only put so many arse in the seats.

To me, Galatoires in N.O. isn't this amazing food place. It is about the old school atmosphere and having a 3 hour lunch/dinner, especially the party that breaks out on Friday afternoons.

It just doesn't seem right to have Galatoires in a strip mall in another city.
Good luck to them though.

I'm amazed this is actually going to happen. When they closed the blue bayou location I thought they were full of shot when they said they would open a new BR location.

I disagree. It was traditional dishes for the most part but I always enjoyed it. I never had a bad meal and the wine list was top notch.

100% chance all the NOLA people will say the BR one isn't as good even if they've never been to either restaurant.

Dude your view of "NOLA people" and their opinion of restaurants is so out of whack it isn't even funny. You act like the entire city is made up of the 1% blue blood Uptowners that the other 99% generally despise.

Oh I know that's not representative of the city

But it's representative of some of the posters here

Believe me I'm not deluded enough to think that everyone in New Orleans is as stupid as the 1%ers are you call them.

I'm happy about this.

I am too. I only ate there once or twice a year on special occasions, and each time, myself and the group with me, enjoyed the food. I look forward to its reopening and will continue to go back as I did in the past.

Not enough lunch revenue. Can't blame them.
