Friday night restaurant experiences

Had reservations at Ruth’s Chris for 515 (that’s what was available, we had a baby sitter, beggars can’t be choosers) for belated anniversary dinner. Got a call at 445 that they had some workers who were exhibiting symptoms, so they were shutting it all down, they were very sorry, safety first.
Called LaLagniappe to see if they were even open. They were and were taking reservations (which they never do). Got a 540 reservation.
Showed up on time and promptly seated by masked and gloved staff. Warm bread and ice water served by masked and gloved staff.
Ashley soon arrived, masked and gloved, To take our drink orders and tell us the specials.
Wife: sautéed crab claws
Me: crawfish bisque(best bite of food all night)
Both: salad with fried oysters(upgrade, so great)
Wife: tuna special, did not try it, but she loved it
Me: fish in bag, fantastic as usual
Got cookies to go from ninos for desert
I’ve long said LaLagnisppe is one of, if not the top, restaurant in Baton Rouge. They aren’t pushing any culinary boundaries. They know what they do. They do it well, consistently.
They did not miss a beat. Food and service were great. I really enjoyed fewer people in the place, but I know that’s not in their best interest.

That's an encouraging start.

Why is it so cool to rag on Ruths on this board? It’s a steakhouse. Sometimes people want a steakhouse. Every meal doesn’t have to be some boundary shattering edgy culinary experience. Sometimes I want a sizzling steak covered in butter, some cheesy potatoes and a bourbon.

Did I miss the memo that Ruth’s Chris steaks suck?

Most likely Ruth's has an unethical workforce and is facing a sick-out like many other restaurants whose employees would rather stay on unemployment.

I went to Ruffinos last night....very pleasant experience with masked/gloved service staff.
I had a 6:15 reservation and was seated promptly by a masked hostess. Food, service, and drink were all very good. I actually enjoyed the extremely spread out tables. It made for a very private experience. Lots of servers per table. I wore a mask into the building and removed it once seated. I don't know that I will bother next time as no one else wore them. It felt so good to sit down to a prepared meal and be served an ice cold dirty martini with a blue cheese olive. And based on the full tables, I was not the only one.

Really don't get the point of all these people wasting gloves.

That is truly unfortunate about Ruths Chris. Given the cost of reopening, if that happens to a smaller, less financially strong restaurant I wonder (and hope) they'd do the same, versus trying to roll the dice.
While I'm personally not ready for a mask/glove dinner experience, the fact that tables are far apart and making things more private does probably elevate the experience.
Will be interesting when things ultimately go back to normal, and tables get packed in together again, will some people complain for the "old" way of having everything spaced out?

Not me
If I wanted to eat alone or in a quiet atmosphere I’d stay home

Went to BLDG5 and it was a great night. Hour wait. Food was good. Nice to be out.
Stayed in Duvics and had a drink after. Felt normal.
