Good afternoon, folks.

My wife and I, along with some adult relatives, are heading to Fredericksburg early Friday morning for a long weekend. I am seeking recommendations for wineries, dining, and late night boozing.

So far, Grape Creek has been pretty uniformly recommended as the best winery. I have also heard Becker and Fatass. Thoughts?

For dining, I've heard Vaudeville and Crossroads. We are looking for a couple of upscale places for night meals.

What say you guys (and gals)? Much obliged!

Wife and I were there after the Grand Prix in October and thoroughly enjoyed it. The only place you mentioned that we went to was Vaudeville and our experience as a brunch was fantastic. I think a late night boozing dinner there would be epic.
We really liked Otto's German Bistro for dinner one night. It's a smaller place and not fancy at all but has that whole hipster-farm-to-table and unique cocktails thing going on and our food was good.
We ate at Cabernet Grill one night and it was a lot more relaxed and food was good after a long day of drinking.

Anyway, on to the wine. I would say my favorite wine and experience was at Lewis wines. Small operation putting out great wine and the server and the winemaker were the only other two people in there and they treated us like best friends after being there for 15 mins. Not fancy at all but a nice large patio/barn deal to sit outside attached to the tasting room. Great Reds Whites and Rose. Tinto Cao, Tempranillo.
William Chris was really good wine(Bought plenty to bring home) and a nice place and we were treated well at the tasting but they kind of process you through there it seems.
Spent a good bit of time at Ron Yates which is out by Lewis and William Chris.
Lost Draw Cellars had a casual tasting room in town with good wines.

Went to Pedernales winery and the property was beautiful and the wine was good, but didn't love the vibe we got when we went to talk about buying wine from them and/or joining their wine club.

The only place we went back to a second time was Lewis. Owner?/Operator took us out to the barn where they store all of the wine and let us taste stuff that was still fermenting and not yet finished. You could tell he was super passionate about wine and treating people well.

If you want to take a break from the wineries, the tour at Garrison Brother's distillery was a really good time.

Stay away from Fat arse...they might as well be serving wine coolers.

Becker has a great setup.

No, no, no, no

Those three are now where near the best. Here are a couple that are head and shoulders better.

Calais, Innwood Estates, William Chris, Lewis

Then you start getting into the

Lost Draw, Kuhlmann, Becker, Grape Creek range

Yup.
Garrison Bros for good bourbon, a lil pricey but good shite. It’s all Texas.

William Chris, we are members. The Mourvèdre is damn good....

Ron Yates, had just opened and we hung out there for a couple hours with the manager.

Got way more than we paid for with regards to the tasting. Tried all kinds of stuff.

Lewis, I’ve heard great things about. They weren’t open at the time we could go.

Kulhman is a little different in that they offer a tasting of sorts with their wines.

Go eat at Ottos and stay away from brewery in town. There was a big operation opening up outside of town as far as breweries go a few months ago.

We’ve been a couple of times and we like the smaller “all Texas” wines. Some of the newer operations are importing Cali wines and blending.

They seemed gimmicky just by their branding. Pretty easy to pass up for us.

It’s off the beaten path a bit.... but there is a cool joint called alberts ice house in b/w Hye and Fredericksburg. It’s a locals bar, open air type place. Always have live music and there is a bbq truck there.

The people were very welcoming... but were asking how the frick we found the place.

Check out 4.0 Cellars winery. We had done Napa/Sonoma a couple months before visiting Fredericksburg, and thought the wine tasting at 4.0 was as good as almost any show in CA. Really cool venue.

We go to Fred pretty often, Hilltop is a must when we are in that area. It’s a freakin awesome little funky Cajun Greek joint with incredible food. Family owned and run with incredible service. It’s maybe 7-8 miles out of town. Oysters Bruton and the flaming cheese are great apps.
