His early incarnations of Talk Food with Tom were very busy. Busier than this forum in a high day, I believe for a while. Like I said, there were some really good posters there. He managed to either run them off or ban them.
Bam Bam!

He went from a very busy substantive board to not much at all over the years and the main reason it faded out was his personality.
Obviously, he still has a following on his show and presumably his website. He was able to insult more people on the forums, though.
Tom makes that NOLA Smokehouse guy look like a social media/online whiz.
He just really did not get the medium.

LOL. He was also able to better display his lack of knowledge in certain areas...he would get into pointless disputes, ad nauseum, where he was easily proven wrong. The whole thing got tedious in the extreme. Frankly, I visited those boards because quite a few regular posters had a wealth of food knowledge; the board's utility was always in the posters, not the moderator. I quit posting in his various realms because he had a habit of editing posts...not just his own, but others. No thanks....

Because of his behavior on his food board, he got a good many crank callers to his show in those days. Sometimes, it took him a little while to figure out that he had a crank on the line. Sadly, it made his show more interesting.
I wish we could still pull up the old forums so you could read some of his fights with posters. One guy even started a website about him that was simply juvenile, but TF brought out the worst in a lot of folks. The site is probably still around, but I can't think of the name of it, right now.

Have you ever called his show?
Posted on 7/13/15 at 7:08 pm to Paul Allen
No. There was nothing I wanted to ask him.
Posted on 7/13/15 at 7:10 pm to Gris Gris
I'd recommend that you give him a call. He's got a great show that has been on for over 25 years. I like his insight on several things related to the NOLA dining scene.

I've read his boards for years and I heard his show plenty of times when I lived in Nola and never thought he was great. Personally, I don't care for him and there's nothing I want to ask him. I get that you like him and think he hung the moon, but I disagree. He was a pompous arse on his food boards.
You think folks get beat up over here over mentioning chains? Nothing like what he did to people for mentioning them. The very first thing I posted on his oldest board a gazillion years ago was what was in the sauce at Copeland's served with the broccoli bites. He blistered me for asking that question. I love that sauce. What he said to me was mild compared to how he responded routinely to other folks over the years. I wish those boards were still up so you could read them.

i think you should consider calling him too

Paul Allen and TF need to get a room!

For what? I've heard his voice. He's not a guy I have a desire to speak with or befriend. I don't like him.
Do you call him and, if so, what do you ask him?
Posted on 7/13/15 at 7:36 pm to Gris Gris
yes I've called and given restaurant reports 4x that i remember

I once called and correctly guessed where he ate.
Sadly, I never redeemed my gift certificate to Vincent's Metairie.

I just had a thought, do you think BamBam could be Arse? Their writing styles seem to be similar.
I really miss those epic slap fights between TF and whomever tasked themselves with getting his goat.

And Lester?
All the same guy?
"Shut up" is a common retort, you both like TF, and think GG should call him.
Let's just say you aren't doing a great job showing you aren't the same guy.

Nah...Bam wasn't a Beam kind of guy and he certainly wasn't an LSU fan. He was a bit of a snob with food. I don't think he'd eat 3/4ths of the things Arse eats.

Certainly not all in the same weekend.
