He's really rude to his wife on air.

He's an institution here in the New Orleans area and has been reputed for years. Get your facts straight before posting such patently asinine remarks about an icon.
When he had his forum, I got an email from him that said, "You're banned, a-hole!" I was like, "what did I do?" Later, I got an apology from him, but what kind of jerk does that?
He's reputed to be rude, lie about his alma mater and act as a shill for his sponsors. And sorry, but he's neither an institution nor an icon in New Orleans.

He seems like a piece of shite. I guess birds of a feather really do...

I wonder if he still beats his wife.

Then Mitch should take him down.

Great description.

Those old message board days were the best. Him fighting with bam bam and many others was kind of pathetic.
I remember he and one of the restaurant owner wives arguing for days on if he had actually been into the restaurant the week before after he claimed he had.
Tom's not bad on the air, but he comes off quite insecure with how he acted online.

I've gone blank on their restaurant and their names. They're on the tip of my tongue. He didn't like them for some reason and the feeling became mutual. The restaurant was pretty eclectic and Tom seemed to avoid reviewing it for a long time. I never knew what it was about them or the place that caused his intense dislike. The chef was a crusty guy, no doubt, but talented. I believe he came back and worked for at least one restaurant which eventually closed post Katrina, might have been out Harahan way. Then, he started the food delivery Uptown and I believe he posted here a few times about it in the last few years, but I haven't heard anything about it since. He was the Wank, but people would order and he'd go Uptown where folks picked up the orders. He and his wife divorced post Katrina, as I recall. She went to a Metairie restaurant worked the front of the house there, the tapas place, I think. Anyway, yes, they argued.
He and Mr Lake had a war going on for the longest time. I think it was because she called him out when he was caught in perhaps some inconsistencies to put it nicely. She then started her own forum and he'd go over there and argue, but she was completely obsessed with hating him.It was like a sickness she had with him and he with her. It was tiring and distracting from food talk. Junior high stuff. I remember being surprised that he couldn't just let it go and ignore her. She didn't have a very big following on her board at the time. The whole thing was immature and bizarre.
Remember Feng Shui? Now, there was a character. I think she got the best of him over and over again. He took her bait every time.
ETA: It was Chef Pete Vazquez and he was at Mimi's in River Ridge post Katrina for a stint. He and his wife had Marisol's before Katrina. He was also at Bacchanal for awhile.
Apparently, he's got a place called The Appetite Repair Shop around Algiers. I don't think I've seen it mentioned here or I missed it. Anyone been there?
Here's the Facebook page.

Yep, that's who I was thinking of with that reference I made to Tom fighting online with the wife.

I remember that crazy poster.
My other favorite fight was when people were calling him out about getting free cruises for he and his family in return for the eat club cruises he promoted. I think someone was claiming that his father in law or someone was bragging about getting the free deal along with Tom, etc.
I never was convinced either way in that argument, but it did make it more interesting when his travel agent buddy went out of business and was accused of stealing some of the people's money.

"Evil Janis" was Pete's wife. Friend reminded me of that. Wasn't she at Vega Tapas?
Yes, I recall the cruise arguments, as well. There were so many arguments. TF brought most of those on himself and then had to spend all manner of time deleting threads, posts and banning people who came back at him. He was his own worst enemy. Shame because when the board shut down, a lot of good informative posters were lost. Chefs too. The Nola Eats spin off forum just never took off.

When was this? What year?

No kidding. He was born a poor black child in Treme on Fat Tuesday, the eve of the biggest hurricane to hit NOLA to that point, and has lived in NOLA (er, the Northshore) his entire life after graduating from Jesuit (er, Rummel).
Fricking amazing

I don't recall what year he shut it down. Google NOLA Eats forum and you'll find a thread about it. You could also Google "tomments" and find something. Those were obnoxious.
He subsequently tried to start another forum which got little action. He gave that one up also and, after some time, apparently he started allowing comments on nomenu.com.
His early incarnations of Talk Food with Tom were very busy. Busier than this forum in a high day, I believe for a while. Like I said, there were some really good posters there. He managed to either run them off or ban them.

Ok I'll check that out. He still gets a good amount of regular callers daily.

This was the last board he tried and by then, he'd offended and run off so many people, it died a painful death and never really took off at all. Even Tom rarely posted and the few times I read it, he was busy having to delete the "cranks" as he called people he didn't like and who didn't much like him.

He went from a very busy substantive board to not much at all over the years and the main reason it faded out was his personality.
Obviously, he still has a following on his show and presumably his website. He was able to insult more people on the forums, though.
