re: Food Show with Tom Fitzmorris - New Saturday time on WWL

I read and posted on the many incarnations of his food forums for some years. There were some really great posters on there, but Fitz wasn't one of them. He kept the drama alive every day and nearly all day insulting people constantly. He wants them to ask him questions, but he would beat them down when they asked something he thought was stupid or didn't like one of favorite restaurants. I ignored many of his posts as much as possible and read the other posters' posts.
On his last Nola.com forum, he kept the folks working for the site there pretty busy deleting posts and banning people. They would all return under another alias, though. He finally gave it up and started his own private forum which didn't get many folks and didn't last long at all. Even he didn't post there very much.
It was a shame because on many occasions, he had good info to share. He just didn't do it well. He incited more people than he pleased.
I still use his website from time to time because he's got some good reviews on it when they're up to date and his top 10 lists are pretty good. I liked reading the dining diary when it was about food especially the ones with pictures. I look at his recipes on occasion. Haven't used his site in a long time, though, since the dining guide was birthed here, but now that's gone. I'm sure I'll use it again. I used to refer people here to his site.
I used to stream his shows, but I'd find myself bored and not listening, so I stopped.

Why the "
First, not everyone has the same tastes.
Second, it seems that many people think this TF cat is terrible. It's not like they are criticizing Drew Brees (as a QB).

Can't ask your buddy Paul a question?
If I was commenting about TF you would have a point.

I didn't. I found him difficult to listen to. Haven't tried recently, though.

You can eyeroll all you want. He's a dinosaur clinging to a vanished past, he mixes advertising and editorial with little distinction, and he often contradicts himself. He knows almost nothing about any ethnic cuisine, even those represented in south LA for decades and decades now (like vietnamese). As a historian, he has some value. As a legitimate dining critic, tastemaker, or culinary trendspotter, he's useless. He is disrespectful to callers, loves the sound of his own voice, and is patently incurious about all of the creative, interesting stuff bubbling up all over SE LA.

That's one preposterous outlook. He's an institution here in the New Orleans area and has been reputed for years. Get your facts straight before posting such patently asinine remarks about an icon.

No kidding. He was born a poor black child in Treme on Fat Tuesday, the eve of the biggest hurricane to hit NOLA to that point, and has lived in NOLA (er, the Northshore) his entire life after graduating from Jesuit (er, Rummel).

Oh gosh, he got pretty sensitive about the Jesuit excommunication and Rummel thing. Poor guy had to spend a lot of time deleting posts daily. It was becoming a full time job for him because he'd ticked off so many people over the years. And, there was that U-boat thing that went on and on. That got him going big time. He brought it all on himself though and when he would contradict himself and people would point that out, he was a deleting, banning machine.
I just don't enjoy listening to the guy. Not all institutions are good ones.

It's pretty obvious.
Paul Allen = Tom Fitzmorris.

Used to listen to him until his wife joined him on the show. She annoys me.

I listened for about 30 minutes to the show yesterday.
Not terrible but I would never listen if I lived there.
