ohhh the statesmen paper from Austin texas?? what an authority on Jazzfest, let me tell ya.
typical inaccurate stereotype on long lines at Jazz fest.
i' dont think ive ever waited longer than 5 minutes in a line at Jazz fest, and ive been going all my life. and ive tried just about everything.
its not even worth arguing about. I question if you have even been to Jazz fest.

clearly a journalist that covers music festivals,is a jazz fest regular, and writes in the hometown of sxsw knows nothing about regional music festivals.

she may know about music festivals, but she obviously doesn't know about the length of the food lines.
"horrifically long" is how she described the lines.

do you know what "region" means?

region - A part or section of a country or the world
Gulf south region?
southern region?
that state next to Louisiana region?
which part of the region does sxsw and JF share?

If anyone goes, eat early.
After around 2pm, the portions reduce to about a third of what they serve early, and still charge the same price.
Three bites for $5

I arrive at jf at 11. Grab a ton of dishes that I like and will have long lines later then grab my spot in the economy hall tent. Heaven.
You just have to know what you are doing. Anyone who has been more than once can figure out jazzfest food lines. I would venture a guess that 2-3 min is the most I have ever waited. It's all about getting the Cochon and soft shell in the first round and knowing crawfish pie, jamilas, bennachin, etc. Never have lines.
Same theory for fgf. A local would know. A transient biker that lived here for a few months likely wouldn't.

My food report from the FQ fest yesterday.
GW Fins fish taco- decently good but only about 2 bites worth. It was $3 though
Emeril's Del- Crawfish and veal sausage poboy with peppers- Was very good and the best thing I ate.
Praline Connection- Chicken livers with pepper jelly and greens. Typical southern soul food and I was impressed. It isn't something I eat very often.
The first two had no lines at all and I walked right up. Praline connection was about 7 people deep. All in all I had a great time and I am going back today. Wish I would have known the parking prices were jacked up- $25 to park for 5 hours was steep.

Parking lot on the canal street side of Jax. I should have known it was too good to be true. I have never seen them increase the prices for other events there.

I'll be there Sunday, but it's for the Hornets game. I'm still undecided where the frick to eat or how reasonable it is to expect to be able to eat comfortably, with the crowds.

TONS of people out there today.....wandered the river, then the quarter. So many people in the Catheral fenced area that you could hardly walk. The lines had a few people, but nothing more than a couple minute wait.
Had two types of seafood pasta. One at a place on the river (can't remember the name) and another in the square from the Sonesta. The Sonesta's was really good....the other, not nearly as good.
The weather was AWESOME!

Food is not getting very good reviews. That sucks.
