My parents went yesterday with a group of folks and thoroughly enjoyed everything they ate (the two things above were not mentioned), fwiw.

A couple of additions that I have not been reviewed from my sampling:
Crescent City Pie and Sausage company boudin was incredible. Best i ever had. Jamblaya was also really good:
Amy's Viet Cafe (the Old Mint) - Bahn Mi was awesome. Spring rolls were pretty good.

quote:i almost got this from boucherie's booth. i ended up deciding to get the brisket from Tujaques, which had a horseradish sauce that was great.
Roast Beef Po Boy with Pickled Red Onions and Horseradish Cream $7.00
my only complaint is the ran out of shrimp and cheddar and bacon grits before i could taste them

Once again I will say, that I do not get the love fest with people wanting to go to festivals to try out restaurants that are set up cooking out of a tent. I just do not get it ...
I would rather not fight the crowds and check the actual restaurant out on my own.

i typically go get some bbq or a hunk of meat. i trust them to cook a piece of meat slow and low.
and i dont mind the crowds. i enjoyed people watching the drunks. i love any excuse to sit outside by the water tho

quote:only lines that i dont like to fight are ones to shitty port a potty with puddles around when im in saddles. luckily, FQF is smack dab around business establishments that serve drinks to go & i can stop by for a cheap drink where they didnt skimp on the alcohol and have indoor plumbing.
but there are some crazy lines sometimes.

I can say that late afternoon Sunday, big crowds but minimal food lines anywhere. Lines for port-o-lets a different matter.
Slow roasted duck poboy mentioned above was pretty darn good. Brisket looked good as did the desserts from Flour Power but if I had eaten any more it would have curtailed my beer drinking...

It was sort of a double-edged sword all weekend.
The event was so freaking crowded and people were so hampered at moving about that if you could get to any of the food/drink booths, with a few exceptions, you really didn't have to wait at all.
Negotiating how you fought the crowds to get there, was a different story, though.

Definitely interested to see what the estimated attendence figures are. Massive crowds. FQ business owners must have made a killing.

jacksons square wasnt bad at all, but we walked along the river and the line for Plum St sno balls made traffic in that area very bad. but the other lines werent bad at all.
and the people on their blankets and chairs made it hard to navigate as well, but there was practically no lines at the booths. the trouble was just getting to them

yeah the layout seemed to be a little different than last year? At least near the river....where I remember standing last year, had a booth right in the middle of that area. The beautiful weather probably helped out tremendously with the crowds because it wasn't nearly as crowded last year when it was pretty toasty.
