Congrats, you’ll use it 3 times a year.

I’d venture to say I use mine 3 times a month, on average. Probably more. But even if I did only use it 3 times a year it would be worth having. When you need it it’s great.

It can be a handy device, but I just haven't found anything to cook in it that has really wowed me. The pork roast was probably about the only thing that I really liked, but I also did carnitas with most of that pork so there was an additional step that really didn't save a whole lot of time. Everything just seemed to have a weird texture or consistency.

Not hating on it, it just hasn't really been for me. I've used it probably 2 dozen times in over a year of having it.

The best use of mine so far. Can't wait to do it again.

Cooked some quick meatloaf and mashed potatoes tonight. Turned out pretty good for what it was. You can cook the potatoes and the meatloaf at the same time.

Meatloaf, cream potatoes, cornbread, and green tomato pickles.

These Kitchen appliance industries keep getting more advanced every year. Or they are recycling new ideas.
Im gunna wait a bit and see what else they come up in this new and exciting decade.

Anyone know how to keep the new instant pots from burning on certain dishes. I tried a rice dish with heavy cream and it burned, i had to open and stir, it would burn again, until finally it worked.

Usually means the pot is too packed with stuff and there isn't enough liquid. Happened to me once and I learned my lesson.

This. 1 cup minimum. Happened to me on my first cook with chicken thighs.

We got one around Black Friday. It's an 8 qt I think. We've cooked a few things in it. Everyone talks about the ribs, but then you still need to cook them more outside it. By the time it comes to pressure, cooks, and then releases pressure on a natural release... I'm not sure how it saves that much more time.

It's like a crock pot or a toaster oven or an air fryer. Neat tool to have, but not the gamechanger some make it out to be.

In the course of two hours yesterday, my wife made red beans and a Mississippi pot roast.
Two courses that normally would take somewhere around 12 hours (if not cooked at the same time).
Each dish was less than an hour to make.

I feel that it is an absolute game changer when making beans. Really the only reason I bought one.

I just made risotto in 15 minutes, including all prep. Chopped onion, sliced mushrooms, cut kale into ribbons. Sautéed onions, garlic, mushrooms. Added the rice and stirred to coat it.. Added stock, salt, a little Aleppo pepper, a splash of vinegar (cause I didn’t have any wine), slapped on the lid and cooked at high pressure for 6 minutes. Perfect texture, zero stirring.

A question for the more experienced instant pot users.

From what I have read "natural release" means you do nothing after the cooking cycle and the pressure will release on it's own.

I cooked a beef stew a few days ago and the recipe called for 30 minute cooking and 15 minute "natural release" so, kept checking it after the cooking stopped. I noticed it had a timer that was increasing. thought that may have been the timer for the release. But after the timer reached 30, the red pressure sensor had not gone down.

Finally, i hit the cancel button and a little while later the sensor dropped.

Not sure what i am doing wrong.

That's just letting you know how long it's been in keep warm mode.

When something calls for natural release, I just leave it alone for that amount of time, then check pressure by turning it to release so the lid can be removed.

Cool, thanks. The stew came out pretty good. Just a little thin. Gonna cook a whole chicken this week and see how that turns out.
