Dooky Chase is the history and simplicity. For the price with that you can't go wrong. If you are here for a week I would recommend going. For a weekend it doesn't make sense to be on the list.

I have a reservation for the last week of this month for my birthday. I only made it for 2.
I'm glad i did make it then. Emerils was always my birthday dinner for years before EJ took over and flipped the menu. I used to go for the andouille crusted fish and the chocalate soufle.
Looking forward to it. Not looking forward to the cost though.

I’ve heard Mason on a podcast before. He prefers to come up with specials but customers complain when staples are removed for something new or specials.
He also said some of his early menu items simply ended up not being cost effective to leave on the menu.

Yes Domilisies puts ketchup on their shrimp and i think mustard on the roast beef.
It's an ok poboy but not in my top ten places uptown for a poboy. Guys and Mahoneys in the area are much better.
Though I still think Patentons has the best poboys in the area. That's where I bring people for shrimp or oyster. Its like a secret almost.

The best meals I had at Peche were when the waiter offered us off menu items. Like the Tuna Collar.

Edit: I know Michelin is pay to play to a degree…but those BG selections scream paid acknowledgement IMO.
I just noticed the reccomended list of restaurants, which seems to make a bit more sense NOLA-wise than the BG.
One thing that stood out, however, is it seems like the Brennans must not have played ball at all with them.

Yeah, I saw someone mention that on Reddit. They thought it strange since their restaurants seem to have lots of other honors such as James Beard, Wine Spectator, etc.

Looks like Little Coyote got a Bib in Chatt. That place is really hit or miss. Had some pretty bad food there. It's got the right fancy look to it I guess, but I wouldn't put it on my must eat list in Chatt.

I like LUFU but don't think it stands out over Plume. I'd rather "cross the damn bridge."

Just noticed that too. Not a single Brennans family restaurant.
The list isn't a list they this board would make.

Plume is fricking awesome. I’m really pissed they are closing.

Pretty much what I expected, but I am a little surprised at Saint Germain and Zasu. I think Michelin rounded up there to give them a star to blunt criticism of their overall perspective on New Orleans. Emeril's has come on fast and getting a ton of national recognition lately. I find generally that New Orleans restaurants can have great food, but generally don't have the service, plating, or ambiance that other Michelin restaurants deliver. Not necessarily a knock. The Michelin experience can be too much a lot of the time. I think you have to experience a few of them to get the idea of what Michelin is actually ranking.

The link in the OP is bad.
Here's a link from Axios

Other New Orleans nods within the Michelin Guide include:
One star: Saint-Germain and Zasu.
Bib Gourmand, which nods to great food at reasonable prices: Acamaya, Cochon and Cochon Butcher, Domilise's Po-Boy and Bar, Dooky Chase's Restaurant, Hungry Eyes, Lufu NOLA, Mister Mao, Parkway Bakery and Tavern, Saba, and Turkey and the Wolf.
Additional restaurants were named in the guide as selections. These don't rise to Bib or star status. Michelin says these are "simply a good meal." They included 34, Addis NOLA, Atchafalaya, August, Clancy's, Compére Lapin, Galatoire's, Herbsaint, Killer Poboys, Dakar NOLA, La Petite Grocery, Molly's Rise and Shine, Osteria Lupo, Patois, Pêche, Saffron NOLA, the Kingsway and Willie Mae's NOLA.
One especially surprising snub? Dakar NOLA. Though it was among the selections, many assumed the Senegalese tasting menu restaurant on Magazine Street was a shoe-in for a bigger Michelin mention.
Also missing: Most of New Orleans' classic, white tablecloth grand dames. That means a shutout for the entire Brennan's family of restaurants, Commander's Palace and others.

In what universe would you be surprised at Saint Germain
They and Emeril’s were the only locks.

To not have any of the Brennan places make the list - no matter what branch - is, as my kids say, “sus”
BG is tough because a lot of places won’t make the “value” proposition.
But for none of them to even make the recommended list?

And yet, they say that the only thing that matters is the food.
No one actually believes that

To have lufu and not saffron Nola is a joke. Lufu is a decent lunch place that’s second best item is the wings. The briyani is not as good as Taj Mahal’s. It also has no ambience(in the old halal guys location) and below average service.

Every once in a while, they'll do something like giving a star to a food stall in Singapore or something, but for the most part, it's an entire experience. I always like to refer to The Modern in NYC. Has two stars. The service and plating are on a completely different level. If you're sitting at a four-top at the Modern, when they serve a course, you will get four people serving your plates at the same time. It's kind of like an orchestra.

I wonder about this too. Was Saffron too expensive for the BG category? I’m not sure I understand the BG criteria. Saffron was on the recommended list.
