Williams Sonoma by Staub
I’ve been trying to decide between a LeCreuset and a Staub. Found a 5.5 qt LeCreuset at HomeGoods for $159 so I scooped it up yesterday. However, I am also noticing that Williams Sonoma has a line that’s on sale for half price right now that is made by Staub. I could get a 7 1/4qt for 149.00. Does anyone know if the quality of the “Williams Sonoma” by Staub is the same as the Staub? Also which would be a better choice, the 5.5qt or the 7.25 qt size wise?

Not sure about those two because I've never worked with them, but I can say that my four different sized Lodge enameled dutch ovens were a lot cheaper than those mentioned and have served me extremely well over the years with no issues, and in hindsight, I don't see the monetary advantage of LeCreuset or Staub.

Hell of a price if the quality is the same. Looks like it is made in France probably at the same factory so I would imagine the quality in on par.

I have both lodge and le creuset. They hold up similarly. The lodge feels a bit heavier. I can’t really explain but I like the Le creuset better.

Any place I could find some good Dutch oven recipes?

I have some Staub and LeCreuset and like both with equal enthusiasm. Since you got the 5 I’d get the 7 at $149. That’s a good price. I bought the 4 quart before Christmas and gave a couple for presents since they were $99. Meridian Dog posted the sale last year and I bought one for myself.
Looks like you can still get the turquoise for that price.

I have the 13.25 qt Staub I use as my gumbo pot. LeCreuset makes a 15 quart they call the goose pot.

I have also been very happy with my Lodge fwiw. I've been using mine for about five years now with no complaints.

What exactly do you cook in the 4qt? Seems small but maybe I’m just not used to cooking in something that small.
For what it’s worth, I already owned a Dutch oven prior. One of those Cajun Cookers. I think it’s 8qt, but the inside is started to break down from 10 yrs of use.

Last night I made braised short ribs in my 3.5 quart Staub... Perfect size.

They’re both good. Do a chuck roast. You can’t mess it up. Brown the roast, set it aside, do a mirepoix, put the roast back in... add some red wine, dark beer, or beef stock (not too much on either... the roast makes its own juices). Some bay leaves. Fork tender and it’s done.

I cook every soup, stew, gumbo in a dutch oven
It's also good for braising. Think short ribs, osso bucco
Some people use it as a vessel for deep frying but I find that makes too much of a mess so I rarely do it
If I'm making a big batch of marinara sauce or something, I'm also using the dutch oven
It's easily one of the most utilized items in my kitchen

I got my enameled 7qt dutch oven on sale for $40. Have never had any issues.

I have the 6 qt. It's my most used kitchen item. Mine is just over 3 years old, and the enamel is starting to chop and crack a good bit.

I roasted this 4 lb Iversteins chicken in it a few nights ago. And it was good.

Found the black 4qt online for $99 at Sur la Table. Ordered that size too

35 years ago I bought an All-Clad 5.5 qt. SS dutch oven.
LINK
It was a factory second because of a tiny dent so the price was low. After innumerable gumbos, jambalayas, stews, pot roasts, breads, etc., it still looks like new. Why anyone would prefer enameled cast iron with the extra weight and fragility of the liner is beyond me.

I have the black matte too. It’s a great pot you will use a lot. And that’s a deal. Watch next Christmas, they put that one and a few others on sale.
Save your money and buy the 13.25 quart. Weighs about 25 lbs but man it cooks well. I looked at it and the LeCreuset goose pot which is 15 quart oval for years before I pulled the trigger and the Staub was on sale so that settled it. A lot of times they will only put a certain color or two but if it doesn’t matter do it. I have some of my mothers LeCreuset that she bought in the early 50’s still in great shape.
