Dusting boiled crawfish with seasoning before eating -- this is a sin, right?

Someone's trying to tell me this is a Louisiana thing but I've only seen people outside the state do this. It's retarded, right?

More people are doing it now. I dont see the point. Why would you want dust on your lips. Seems like excessive sodium in take to me.
Its not needed

It's very retarded and unnecessary if you know what you're doing and season the water properly. Ain't nobody want that grainy shite on their hands.
I've seen plenty of people do it from New Orleans to Lafayette. Hate it every time. It's happened more for me in the Acadiana area but that's only because I grew up here.

I don’t care for it. I don’t peal the tail so it’s season over kill every one I eat.

I saw it first in east texas in 2007. Then I saw it creep it's way east.

It doesn't even belong in Texas. Like someone else said, season the water right and there's no need for it.

Yes. its the worst way to eat them as well. I've been to a boil where some guy claimed his were the best. I dont know what I expected, but when he brought them to the tables that MFR had covered all the crawfish with lemon pepper. I was floored.
I TRIED THEM. mainly bc I am not going to be that guy who hates on shite without knowing. But they were terrible. No flavor in the meat. that lemon pepper was everywhere and coating my hands.
I gave up after a lb or so and went to check out the pot..... there was no seasoning in the pot. NONE.
Most people didnt eat them and if they tried didnt eat much. He probably had 50lbs leftover.

Yep. I have seen a similar scene. I'm not the best but we never have left overs when I do them. First pot is for the women and children. 2nd batch I always make spicier for the real men

It's basically what all of these "Juicy" seafood places are now doing.
They boil the seafood, then shake it in a plastic bag full of seasoning.

I hired a seafood caterer for an event many years ago. He seasoned the water some, but mostly dusted. He said it was cheaper and easier when boiling a large amount. He also said he could control the heat for those who want milder crawfish. They were edible, but I was very unhappy.

What's funny is watching the Acadiana coonasses point fingers in different directions trying to pin blame on the bastards who started the dusting phenomenon. When in reality it's 100% an Acadiana creation.

There's only 2 ways I'd hire a seafood boiler.
1. I already ate some of his stuff and liked it before hand.
2. I inquire exactly how he boils his seafood and if "dusting" comes into play, he's out if he's not willing to do it the right way and skip that silly crap.

When you’re boiling hundreds, possibly thousands of pounds a night dusting makes sense.
2 sacks, season the water.

What’s funny is watching rednecks try to tell coonasses how to boil crawfish. Where do you think the crawfish is coming from?

First time I saw it was in Arkansas at a festival in Conway. I looked at the dude and told him, “Thats just wrong”.

Years ago I was helping a guy do some conservation snow goose hunting near lake Charles. He was boiling crawfish. He boiled them in salted water, transferred them to a cooler, covered them in mustard and then powdered seasoning. It was absolutely disgusting.
