My dog LOVES raw vegetables. Raw diets are actually much better for them. Chicken, veggies, etc.

Real food is better for your dog than dog food, so IMO people are "immoral" giving their dog by-product from WalMart.

(Real food = rice, vegetables, meats, etc. Not unhealthy foods, though a treat of it won't hurt them)

FIFY

My dogs eat diamond lamb meal and rice. Probably the best dog food I have ever fed. My blood dog weighs 82 pounds and he eats about half as much of the diamond as he does cheap food and he looks better on the diamond.

I think good dog food is better for dogs than people food, but that's just my opinion based on observation. It seems like when I see a dog that people feed table scraps it's usually terribly fat while dogs on good dog food tend to be more muscular and well toned. But I'm just an old hound dog runner

The only thing I don't get is the advocacy of rice and vegetables.

A dog in the wild, or its cousins are not hunting in rice paddies or veg gardens.

I don't get that part either. I don't see how it could be bad for them, but I doubt it does them much good.

I can even see how it might be good for them, but people act like it's natural.

How is a dog's system constructed for rice and carrots?

My dog was eating grass one day by the house and I asked one of the old men if that meant his stomach was messed up. The old man said "That's not true at all. You know why dogs eat grass? Because they like it."

So apparently they get something out of it because they do it on their own (although grass is hardly a vegetable).

I doubt eating carrots is natural for a dog though. I doubt their bodies process veggies very well.

After I left this thread last night, I gave it one last think. Dog food has been around for exactly how many years? How many years have dogs been considered a domesticated animal, and called mans' best friend? How many years did dogs protect thier pack from the wolves and other predatory animals when man were nomadic peoples without the concepts of agriculture. What did dog eat for all of that time? There was no Alpo down at the 7-11.

I guess somewhere between 50 and 10,000. That's as good as I can do with this one.

Whatever they caught and the less desirable pieces of animals that the people killed if I had to guess.

Wow, I can't believe this thread is still going.
Well, I decided to discuss this thread with my two dogs. It went like this:

Me: "Children, there are some nice people on the Internet who say I shouldn't feed you cookies. They say it's bad for you. What do you think?"

Dog 1: "They sound like a bunch of cat lovers."

Dog 2: "Yeah, tell 'em to go play in traffic."

Dog 1: "And, Dad, before you get back on the computer throw us down a couple of those cinnamon rolls on the counter".

Dog 2: "Yeah, don't make us bite you again."

These teeth aren't designed for rice. They're designed to rip flesh.

It does not matter about the teeth at all it may make tearing up something easier, they can get thier mouths around a cannonball if it smells appealing to them and will eat it whole.
