Its under the soup portion of the menu usually. A gumbo is a soup, but a soup isnt a gumbo.

What's wrong with saying gumbo is gumbo and allowing folks to fight over everything else they can find to argue over? It's not like there aren't many other things out there for folks to get upset over.

Let's all try to get along, since the big asteroid is going to strike sooner than most think. It killed the dinosaurs and will take care of us with very little trouble. Fact is, we have no big black space shuttle to send space cowboys up there to split in half and save us.

You eat gumbo with a fork? No.

Soups you eat with a spoon, stews you eat with a fork.

End of discussion.

Guess it all depends on how much of a purist you are with things like this. Some people don't consider it Gumbo unless it has okra and I suppose they're right if you want to split hairs.

It's listed under gumbo!

Gumbo is soup, period. If a gumbo is so thick that it can be considered stew, then that cook doesn't know what they're doing.
