Did anyone have Oyster Dressing for Christmas? I was told it would be good, it wasn't

Some oyster dressing recipes are awful. Guess you got one of those bread filled savory disasters.

Yep, and that is why when I make oyster dressing, it features LOTS of oysters with the proper seasonings and enough bread soaked in oyster juice to bind it all together.
Some folks use ground meat along with the oysters to "stretch" it, and that crap is usually not too good.

My wife's recipe uses cornbread. Shrimp. Crabmeat. And oysters.

I'd never heard of Oyster dressing.
The people with the Oyster dressing were from the south.
Must be a southern thing.
Give me spicy cornbread dressing and you can keep that Oyster nonsense.

We used to have oyster dressing in pastry shells from McKenzie’s at Thanksgiving. There was very little bread in it since they were in the pastry shells. They would come out of the oven steaming hot and I’d gladly burn the roof of my mouth on the first couple while they cooled.

we had the best oyster pie in the world Xmas day better than the one at Thanksgiving cuz we used La oysters instead of Texas oysters as that was only thing available at Thanksgiving. Thank you mom for leaving us the recipe tucked away in one of your many cookbooks....we thought it died with her last Dec. 31!

No, just no. Good oyster dressing is made with lots of oysters, seasonings---trinity, garlic, green onions, parsley, dry seasonings and bread that has absorbed the oyster liquor------not ground beef.
Use ground beef and you have beef dressing.

Oyster dressing/pie is a staple at our Thanksgiving, and its usually top 2 dishes at any meal.
