Friend and I are adventurous home cooks. He has a new home and a nice dining room with a table for 8. We have been talking about doing dinner parties and I think the first should be a celebration of Fall.

Thinking menu would be:

Soup
Salad
Appetizer
Main
Dessert

I've made a delicious pumpkin and andouille soup before and thinking of making a savory pumpkin bread bowl to serve it in.

Are you going fancy or casual?

Apple Cider Sage Pork Chops with Caramelized Apples is a good fall dish, plus it’s easy and delicious. I’ll have to dig to find the recipe I’ve used, but there are others if you search.

Kind of in the middle, if that makes sense. Like for the main we are thinking a rack of lamb would be great.

For apps, you could use baked sweet potato slices in place of crostini and top with pear slices and goat cheese or whipped avocado or whatever colorful pretty things you can think of.

It's not very creative, but nothing reminds me more of fall than a salad with walnuts, apples, and cranberries.

And dessert, if you're going with any of the classics like pumpkin or apple pie, consider doing things in minis so everyone can have one of everything.

Also, if you pop by a craft store, you can get a set of Wilton mini fall leaf cookie cutters... I love to add cutout veggie shapes to the top of my salads or you could use them to make pie crust shapes, etc.

If you're into table décor, small hollowed out pumpkins as a short vase for cut flowers is a great way to add some pizzazz without obstructing everyone's view or taking up too much space (and it takes like 5 minutes to throw together).

I can't wait to hear what your final menu is!

soup- Not much beats a smooth butternut squash or sweet potato soup with some crumbled bacon on top
salad- I'd do some combo of arugula, caramelized figs, walnuts, and feta
Appetizer- I usual prefer cheese boards for this: good bleu w/ honey, manchego with a grape gremolata, and a gouda or white sharp cheddar with bacon onion jam. Sweet and spicy roasted nuts are an easy option. Or a prosciutto flatbread with some goat cheese.
Main- braised short ribs over risotto is always good. Soy glazed salmon with roasted carrots.
Dessert- not a dessert guy. So a good cobbler or crumble

The blog I originally got it from exists no longer, but I found the same one on another blog.

Frank Brigsten's Butternut Shrimp Bisque is also a great Fall soup to me.

LINK

Since tomatoes are not in season, try an orange caprese salad. Very good and refreshing.

I also love a salad with blue cheese or gorgonzola and roasted pecans with a simple vinaigrette dressing.

How about a seafood themed event.

Make "After The Boil Soup". If you don't have crawfish tails on hand from a boil, you can get them frozen in the store. Then simply cook some sausage, mushrooms, corn, potatoes in seafood boil to use in the soup. The recipe is on u-tube and can be found looking up "Cajun Ninja's ATB Soup" video.

A nice fresh Caesar's Salad with home made dressing and croutons.

Appetizer, shrimp remoulade

Main dish: Shrimp or crawfish fettuccini with garlic/spinach/cheese bread.

Dessert: Homemade bread pudding with rum or whiskey sauce.

Shrimp corn dogs are also fun to serve. I use Alton Brown's corn dog recipe but on shrimp and I use Ruffin's shrimp corn dog sauce posted here some years ago. We pass them during the cocktail hour(s).

I would love to be invited. You can play with the soup and maybe add a roasted....or do nothing and just eat the entire cheese board
