if I'm just rolling it in the corn meal, just doesn't seem sufficient enough.

The light roll in cornmeal expands like grits and gives you the perfect ratio of meat to outer cornmeal. Also, don’t roll to tight or stuff to many tamales packed in a crockpot. The tamales expand during cooking.

I’ve only made tamales once and got lucky with the cooking prep and final product. Honestly I would change a thing except next time I’ll make a double batch with 5-6 lbs of ground chuck. That should yield close to 120 tamales

I bought this sausage stuffer off Amazon for $15

Others were priced up to $60

You sure about that? In the past when I contacted them, they told me they don't. Can you post a link?

Their FB page I linked says they ship. That’s all I went on…it could be incorrect.

Solly’s in Vicksburg ships And they are solid

I prefer The Tamale Place, but not sure if they ship. I have had Solly’s twice this week (because the tamale place sold out before I got off of work) and they were better than they normally are. If you are ever in vicksburg, you should try the tamale supreme from tamale place. Tamales covered in refried beans, chili, nacho cheese, onions, and jalapeños. My arteries clogged a little just typing that.

I think it’s a little better than Solly’s but they are stingy with their “juice”.

I contacted Solly’s on Facebook. They do ship. They said to call if you want them to ship to you.

I don't know, but Solly's in Vicksburg has been recommended multiple times, so I would try there.

Maybe Otis knows if there are any places in Monroe. I haven't heard any mentioned.

I randomly ordered some tamales at Champys Chicken in Chattanooga

We have one of those in Daphne, AL and you are correct the tamales are pretty darn good.

OP my favorite place is Tamale Place on the frontage road off I-20 in Vicksburg. Solly's is good too as others have noted. I don’t know if Tamale Place ships but last time I was there I ordered 12 dozen. 10 were frozen to put up for a later eating date and I ate the other 2 dozen sitting in the parking lot.

Someone could open a Tamale place here in Mobile and make a killing. The one I like is not a sit down place. You order them, they wrap them up in newspaper, and off you go. Man alive they do the business. Whites, blacks, Hispanics, Asians, every nationality seems to stand in the line to get their tamale fix on. That place is as busy as a fast food place at noon. Once they run out they are done for the day. Kind of reminds me of the popular Texas BBQ spots.

Iirc, that is Solly’s. I used to hunt on Togo Island south of Vicksburg and we’d go there every trip . They had newspaper articles on the wall from Mr Solly.
I remember getting tamales and the little burgers too. Good memories.

I live in Vicksburg. I prefer the tamale place and it will be easier to get to from I-20. Located on south frontage road. Take the Indiana avenue exit to the south frontage road and head west about a mile or so. Get a burger or a tamale supreme while you are there and eat the tamales when you get home. Solly’s is close to downtown on Washington street. Take the Washington street exit and head north on Washington street 2.5 miles or so.

Of course you could always get a couple of dozen from each one and have a taste-test.
