Love hot dog places but it seems like they need to diversify to stay in business. Why not a hamburger and hot dog place?
Also, you have the toppings for hot dogs and burgers, why not let customers order custom fries with any toppings as well?
And throw in tortilla chips and you have custom nachos. All the same toppings, just a different entree they are on.

This..used to love it but damn it turned to crap. Went and ordered a gator dog topped with crawfish etoufee....got a dog with orange liquid...not a single tail...sent it back and got it with MORE orange liquid. Haven't been back

That is unfortunate. I liked their food, but only went there once a year or so, so it is my fault. They had the best French fries near me.
One of their issues for us was they were closing so early that they closed before we were ready for dinner. We often eat closer to 8:00 and they were closed up for the night before then. I think they had a sign saying they closed at 7:45; so after learning that, I got there at 7:30 one night and they said “sorry, we’re closed.“ Just was not a well-run operation.

Yes, but Sausage doesn’t just come tubed. There’s bulk sausages that’s made into patties. Such as breakfast sausage on a biscuit. Just like a hamburger patty. So sausage can be ground meat formed into a patty on a bun just like hamburgers.

Frankie's (before they apparently closed) had "dawgs" with alligator sausage, deer sausage, duck sausage, crawfish sausage, pulled pork, lobster tail meat, boudin, and probably other non-traditional things at times. That was one of the appeals.

Technically I think a "hotdog" is just a cased "sausage" on a long bun but the word has become linked with an emulsified sausage.

Topic is specifically about "specialty" hot dog places. I assume this is similar to "specialty" hamburger places that get pretty far out there on types of meat (which I listed above) and toppings used between the buns.
Don't call it a "hot dog" if that floats your boat, but I think what we are discussing here, which would exclude your limitations.

Hot dog is emulsified and sausage is ground. 2 different products.
But you’re right, generally, hot dogs are classified as sausage. And that’s fine by me because the sausage category covers so many types. But you do need to know that ground sausage isn’t hot dog.

Wasn't this place just like a take out stand? This would not exactly be like walking into a sit-down restaurant 15 minutes before closings, if that's what you're suggesting.

No, they had seating, mostly outside, but some inside as well. It wasn't a waitstaff place, though.

If you ever make it out to the Kennedy Space Center or surrounding areas, go give Dogs R Us a try.
They also have really good wings. I worked at Cape Canaveral and went there when it first opened.
