Tourist here that makes a point to go every time i'm in the city. While i've seen people there (i'm usually there for brunch) in jeans and a polo, i've never seen it in an amount I would say is abundant. When i've been, the people i'd say are dressed more casually are wearing slacks and a button down with the sleeves rolled up.

Might have just been a bad day when you went as far as the tourists in town

Everyone has a different version of what better means. Food rules everything to me.

The new Emeril's is CERTAINLY better and would have at least 1 Michelin Star if it was in another city.

Saint Germain for me is way better but that is more my thing (Commander's service and ambience is certainly better)

I think those are easily no brainers.

There are a few restaurants that I LIKE better than Commanders for sure but won't make the argument that they are better, if that makes sense.

Looks like Tory has migrated to the 30A area. I guess he's following Emeril's footsteps.

That last name is unique…same family of the guy who owns stuff (200 NB, Bay Town Inn, the old second grade school, the Depot building, the old theater, PJs, Creole Creamery…) all over BSL?

Went Saturday and agree 100%. It is a complete experience - food, service, atmosphere. Based on my Michelin restaurant visits, I would say it derserves 2. But with Texas not getting anything above 1, it's unlikely.

Wife and I discussed Saint Germain while there. The food is outstanding. The service and ambiance are good, but more casual. I'll return to SG more often than Emeril's. Emerils feels much more "special occasion" and its 4 figure price tag firmly places it there. But I felt we got our monies worth. SG is more approachable. both in style and cost.

I put Commanders in the "special occasion" category, not for the expense, but the experience of it. They do a great job of making it feel like a celebration. I'm not going there specifically for the food, but for the overall vibe. You have to try to not not have good time there.

Agree with your post from top to bottom.

SG is excellent but it is definitely more hipster casual in terms of ambience and service, but it is a third of the price at least of Emeril's. Its much more approachable. But Emeril's reaches new heights all around for this city.

Agree on what Commander's is fully.

Pretty easy to do at some of the higher end restaurants in the world.

Emeril's base dinner menu is $225 a person. If you do the wine pairing its an additional 150 a person. That's $750 right there without any supplements (and most courses have some add on they can upcharge you for if you choose) and without tax/tip.

I've forgotten why he left Commander's.

I don’t know if this is why he left, but around that time the cancel crowd was coming for him. It never took legs though.

We easily spent over $1k at Emeril's with the wine pairing and meal last time we went.

The experience at Emeril's was great, but I thought the food part is a bit overrated.

I haven’t been, but my impression is, it seems a bit overly gimmicky.

Emeril's has a Friday lunch now which is more "reasonably" priced at $150 for 4 courses ( plus the extras you will get in a tasting format). I went recently and felt it was actually worth the price tag. The service, presentation, and quality were an obvious step above. I could not imagine the dinner though. We were stuffed.

Friend,

One of Uncle’s fly fishing friends in Bozeman told us some distressing news about T McPhail. Apparently he was convinced to take a job at a hot sushi restaurant there in Bozeman a few years ago (probably explains why I often saw him at Shogun before he left New Orleans). While head chef there in MT’s best sushi restaurant, a woman ordered a roll that had a morel mushroom in it. Somehow someone figured out the morel had not been cooked. It may have caused a terrible reaction and the woman died what was said to be an extremely painful death in the hospital a few days later. McPhail left that position shortly after. Very tragic.

Yours,
