I’m having some lobsters shipped in today and was wondering if any of you have experience with doing the “Cajun” boil for them.

I’ve read a few instructions online, but figured some actual Cajuns would know best!

Thanks in advance!

I’ve never done it but please don’t ruin some good lobster trying to make them into huge crawfish

I didn’t downvote your but this board has some oddly strong feelings on this topic

Try it with lobster in the can first before you waste your money.

This has been discussed on here a few times, FYI.

Here's one thread: My takeaway: don't do it

Lobster meat is different from crawfish meat. It doesn’t need to be highly seasoned. I wouldn’t do it.

I have done it, don't. It's not bad but it's not as good cooked other ways. We did some in the pot and split some in half and did those on the grill with garlic butter. The ones on the grill were easily better than the boiled ones. They won't suck up the flavor like a crawfish.

A friend of mine did this on my bachelor party trip. We boiled crawfish one night and he bought a few lobsters and threw in the pot. It was pretty good, but maybe my least favorite way I’ve even lobster. It’s better prepared so many other ways.

Steam them.

Don't screw up perfection trying to be cute.

I would recommend not boiling but steaming, a very heavy seasoned crawfish seasoning to the water. Personally, it penetrates better for thicker meat. Just what my experience and someone who does it more often told me.

We were walking around the LES on a pre-COVID visit to NYC, stopping in any food service establishment for a drink and a bite, when we stumbled into The Boil.

They steam the seafood then serve it to your dry (no sauce) or tossed in your choice of sauce. Our server suggested that we get all three sauces which proved to be the correct decision. Here is a customer photo from Yelp of what we ordered except with garlic butter only.

If you're looking for something different, you might want to go this route instead of boiling lobster in Chakbay seasoning.

It's really messy but definitely worth the experience!
