Boxed WINE by the numbers. Did you know?

I buy my elderly parents all of their groceries and have learned their eating and drinking habits over the last few months. They have always liked the boxed wine (Franzia) and I buy them 3 boxes at a time. I have been going back about every 8 or 9 days to get 3 more boxes so it got me to thinking and I did some research. I am posting my findings because I wanted to know about how much they were consuming per night to be sure they aren't over doing it. At their age (82) I was concerned a little but I'm not the type to preach to them even though they both have medical conditions and should not drink more than a glass a day according to their doctors. I am posting this in case your parents are drinking like my parents are and you aren't sure of how much they are "actually" consuming. Here are the numbers that I found.... All numbers are rounded.
* One 5 Litre box of wine is 169 ounces.
* In about 10 days, all 3 boxes are consumed.
* 169 ounces multiplied by 3 boxes = 507 ounces.
* 507 ounces divided by 10 days = 50 ounces.
* For comparison, there are 25 ounces per bottle of wine (750 ml)
* My parents are drinking the equivalent of 2 standard bottles of wine per night.
* My parents are alcoholics right?

Bless you for buying their groceries. But I'd be a tiny bit concerned about it...are you sure they're drinking it and it's not going to the neighbors? And you don't know if they're equally splitting it, or if Moms is downing all of it. If you're concerned, just buy less. See if they ask or complain that you've shorted them....
That's a lot of sugar/carbs, not to mention alcohol. I assume that their mobility is somewhat impaired, since you're doing the grocery shopping. I'd be a bit concerned about falls, etc with that level of consumption, esp if it's not evenly split between the two.

I hope at 82 my liver is still able to process that much alcohol. At least they're not bangin' heroin...as far as you know.

Let them drink whatever the hell they please. At 82 I will cut a Mf for taking away my booze.

I had a roommate who would study on campus until late at night, then come home and fill a tall water glass with box wine.
He'd stand in front of the fridge and down it. Glug, glug. Refill glass and do it again. Close fridge.
"Good night!", and he was off to bed.

Sounds like the amounts I would consume by myself when I was drinking. I'm approaching 7 months sober now.
Props to you for buying their groceries and hopefully they are each just your garden variety normal heavy drinker; to whom I respectfully refer as "normies".
