While we're on the subject of deviled eggs, try to buy the small or medium eggs. They are of better size to be a one bite treat.

I steam them for 14 minutes, then drop in ice bath, never have issues.

I recently started air frying them at 250 for 16 minutes and have had no issues with peeling . I actually got the idea to try it that way off a previous post on this board

Unfortunately, asking someone the best method to peel boiled eggs is like asking someone the best method to cook crawfish. You're gonna get 50 different answers. That being said, I use my instant pot on steam for four minutes then let it sit for one minute then ice bath they always feel great coming out of the Insta pot. Course this is with Like 10 to 12 eggs at a time. Anything less you would have to up the minutes on it good luck to you.

I've always understood it to be the opposite, that the older the eggs are the more prone the membrane is to sticking to the egg once boiled. Have I been wrong?

This.

Been doing this method for years and have never had an egg not peel with complete ease

Trust me on this one. It works.

Each egg has two ends. The narrow end and the wider end. Take a spoon and lightly tap on the wide end a few times until you hear it pop. And you will hear it. It doesn't break. It just releases the membrane.

After you do this with all of your eggs, cook them however you normally cook them. I promise you they will peel easily. Last night I peeled 12 eggs in 2 minutes

Spoon trick

Bring them to a low boil for five minutes. Turn the fire off. Cover the pot. Let them steep for 15 minutes. Pour off the water and rinse in cold water. Add ice to the pot of water and eggs. Let them get really cold. Then peel. The colder they are after boiling, the easier they'll peel.

Never had trouble peeling eggs with this trick. Make a hole on both ends. Hold the egg lightly in one hand and blow on the fat end (non pointy). Comes right out.

Boil for 3 minutes.
Turn fire off and cover for 10 minutes.
Empty water.
Replace with cold water.
Crack and easily peel eggs.

So I finally got around to trying these different suggestions. First I tried the air fryer at 250 for 16 minutes. Egg was still raw. Now I’m trying the bring to a boil and turn off heat method. Stay tuned. FYI I’m doing one egg at a time. I’m not a Rockefeller

Also adding vinegar to the water will soften the inner membrane.

You don’t boil for 10 minutes. You bring the water to boil, then shut it off and let the eggs sit in the hot water for 10 minutes.

I sometime just do 8 minutes.

The other method would be to boil the water first then put the eggs in then lower the temp.

That's how we've always made them as well.

I use pressure cooker then ice bath then peel once they are cool. No issues and no grey on my yolks.
