Going to New Orleans in a couple weeks for Hamilton, which is also going to be my birthday, and I'm trying to figure out where to go out dinner for my birthday. Currently have reservations at R'Evolution, as I have never been, but now I'm questioning my decision. Also thinking I may just be leaning toward a big fat steak.

So my questions - if you were going to recommend 1 place in New Orleans for a nice birthday meal, where would you suggest? And alternatively, if I end up deciding I just want a big steak, what's the best steakhouse in New Orleans?

Can't go wrong with your Revolution choice.

Charlies would be my steakhouse choice, but it isn't very New Orleans-esque.

Desi Vegas or Doris Metropolitan probably fit your bill better for New Orleans and steakhouse.

This seems kinda arse backwards to me.

How’s Doris more “New Orleans-esque” than Charlies?

Revolution is great but if you want steak & a great experience may I recommend Mr Johns Steakhouse

Someone asking on a board with R'volution as an option does not have Charlie's as an option.

Like asking a choice between Razoo's, Goldmine, and Snake and Jake's.

I too would recommend Mr. John's for steak, but Vincent's (St. Charles) would be my Birthday meal.

Desi is the same, including the owner, and closer with better sides and environment for what the OP wants.

I understand that and I think I would agree. That doesn’t make the “New Orleans-esque” point make sense, though.

Nawlins vs New Orleans maybe.

I love Charlies, but it doesn't enter the kind when someone asks for a New Orleans type restaurant. Killer steakhouse, great sides, but just not a New Orleans specific steakhouse. Just a really good old school steakhouse.

You think the environment at Desi’s > Mr John’s?

For someone going to Hamilton? Yes.

Do people that go to Hamilton prefer cheesy & sterile hotel restaurants?

I mean it’s closer, yea. But barely

Environment & service is better at mr J’s.

Doris trumps Desi’s. At least get the better experience if you don’t want to eat in a traditional steakhouse

Desi’s is where old arse men go to have business meetings because it’s close to the office

Revolution is much better restaurant than pretty much any steakhouse in NOLA.

The only exception might be Doris Metropolitan. Revolution is still a better restaurant for me, but Doris is pretty darn good.

Huh? I'd argue it's the quintessential NOLA steak house experience.
