best uptown NOLA restaurant

Not sure you can go wrong with any of those choices. Depends on personal taste and what you like to eat. I think Coquette is probably the most modern of the four, but still rooted in classical French techniques and southern ingredients. LPG and Lilette are sort of reimagined and reorganized French bistros set in New Orleans and Atchaflaya is going to hew more to the Creole style of cooking.

I also highly recommend Clancy's

Shaya has James Beard award winning chef, but definitely not quintessential New Orleans food by any means

Commander's Palace is the best, followed by La Petite Grocery and Coquette. To round out the top five, Clancy's and Brigtsten's are not far away.

This is what I was going to suggest if the family is not real adventuresome and wants some traditional Nola/La food.

Shaya might be the best restaurant in Nola let alone Uptown. So Shaya.

Out of that list I like Coquette the best.

Lots of great suggestions in this thread. It really depends on the type of food your grandparents would enjoy, atmosphere etc... There are many "bests" for different reasons.

Are your grandparents from the New Orleans area or will this be new to them? That matters, also.

I am pretty sure you will get a great Old Fashioned at any of those spots. And probably not the best criteria to decide on where to eat.

Gautreau's is undergoing a chef change. Since it has been consistent for so many years (and produced 3 F&W Best New Chefs - a remarkable feat) I doubtit has declined. New chef is Baruch Rabassa who has been around town for years.

However, I think depending on where you can get a reservation, Coquette or La Petite is your play here.

Will be fun to see what happens at Cavan now with a new chef.
