The wife and I still goto Chophouse once or twice a year because we had one our first dates there. We usually split the 10oz filet and butter garlic prawn dish. I know there are better steakhouses in the city but we enjoy the ambiance of Chophouse.

I thought it was really good, but I get the price point would have people expecting it to be on a level above everyone else.

i've eaten there 3-4 times... it's been meh a few times but really good once. The one time it was really good was when we were in a private room with a lot of people at our table and we ordered 3 meat sampler platters with all sorts of shite on it

What does a medium filet look like? That’s got to be a tough temp to cook it to. Any pink, not cooked enough, no pink...too much.

Overcooked.

It's been several years since I've eaten there, but they used to have a damn good prime dry aged NY strip.

Galatoires is very hard to beat. I know you said steakhouse, but I'm throwing this in there because it's one of the best steaks around

I finally had Mr John's about a year ago. The beef was super tender and perfectly cooked; however, it was under seasoned. Needed more SnP. Great steak, though I prefer others based on my one experience. I'm sure it was an anomaly, so I don't hold anything against them.
I would like to add Andy's Bistro to this list. Yes it's Metairie, not New Orleans, but it's one great piece of beef

What is you and your wife's definition of medium and your definition of well done?
Just curious because I have gotten the strip from Mr. Johns a dozen times medium rare and they have nailed it every time.
Not saying you are wrong, just want to know what you were expecting.

This. Was hyped up so much, finally went, it was good but nothing special.
I go with La Boca, Desi or Ruth's

Yeah, that is not good.
HA
I am surprised that happened. Like I said, I have never had a bad steak there. Always cooked how we ask for it.
Was this recently?

I've eaten at all of the ones mentioned in here, but I also think Venezia's has an underrated steak.

This was August 2018. Full disclosure, I had the ribeye and it was cooked to temp (med rare) and was good. Wife was displeased though and so I don't think we will be back

I know not no, but Austin's in Metairie is legit for the price.
But nola
Mr John's is consistent and has the best crust by far. Perfect cook each time.
Doris metro when it's not busy is worth the money, it's not as consistent as Mr John's though.
Chophouse and LA boca are two of the most overrated steak houses in New Orleans. One is bland. The other is seriously poor quality meats for what is called prime.
