In your opinion, what is the best soup or stew (chili included) for a cold and rainy day?

Quick soups are good. Potato/Leek or broccoli/cheese are quick to fix.

For a bit longer cooking time, chicken noodle or vegetable/beef.

Then there's your different gumbos, and like you mentioned, chili.

That's why I like to cook soups in bulk, freeze it and take a quart or two out when wanted.

I wouldn't eat it for a full meal, but french onion soup on a cold and rainy day always hits the spot

everything mentioned here (above and below this post) would be good.

I am certain the always lovely Miss Gris Gris has an opinion too.

Plus all of these.

We are big soup folks at our house, even on lovely sunny warm and dry days. I have no criticism of dropping the AC 10 degrees and doing gumbo in July.

Last night

I love 15 bean soup, but it gives me so much gas you could tape a tuba to my arse and I could march with a Dixieland Brass Band.

It's hard to beat momma's chicken & sausage gumbo, with a few oysters added to the pot. Wish I had some right now...

Supper will likely be a box of Trader Joe's roasted red pepper soup as a starter, followed by some black bean tamales.

I eat it for a meal when I make it. All that cheesy goodness in that broth is a fine meal.
