Barrel Proof has the best first three old fashioneds I've ever had in N.O.

I had more after that, but don't recall the taste.

Or the rest of the night.

Ye Olde College Inn used to have a very good one.

But tbh, it’s been years since I’ve been.

Was going to say the same thing. It may be a personal preference, but I like theirs.

The best one I have had is at the bar in 73 Distillery.

The bartender can make or break an Old Fashioned. I usually opt for Angels Envy Rye, which is finished in Caribbean Rum casks. The flavor profile works for me.

Gilded Perch is one of the best bars in New Orleans no one talks about. Love that place.

Rye Old Fashioned

I find I prefer my old fashioneds made with rye, though if drinking straight, then I generally prefer a bourbon over a rye.

Is that weird?

If you want an old fashioned like my grandfather drank, Mandina's, they don't get fancy and it is an old school old fashioned.

It should def be on your visit of 40 places

Pretty much just bourbon and a shot of cherry juice.

An old fashioned should be a very whiskey forward drink, regardless of where you’re getting it from.

You will like bunchie. I’m sure it will blow up soon. Will be perfect for when the weather gets nice. Big wrap around porch along the avenue.

It's been open for a while. It's set up sort of reminds me of how the Columns used to be before you had to check in with a maitre d in order to get a drink there.

I don't go to different places as much as I used to and tend to focus on places that are on my card's points list to maximize that, but it looks cool. I a going to check it out
