Verti Marte has saved my arse a time or two late night in the FQ
Verti Marte is becoming a bit of a tourist destination since it's become Brad Pitt's favorite dive location. He talks about it alot.

thanks Guys. Like I said all suggestions are appreciated. Jazz Fest is this weekend and I'm wanting to hit a few of the "not so well-known by out of towner and local favorite spots". Tried to avoid lazy terms that time. LOL
start making reservations yesterday, im sure all the places listed here are gonna be packed too.

I like Napolean House for lunch.

if you go during the weekend, you'll see why people call it a tourist trap. Not so much the food, but the fact that the line outside is down the block with tourists.

The days of places tourists don't know about are gone. When I was still living uptown (97-02) places in the area would get packed during jazzfest and it just wasn't locals. Food blogs, food sites have done away with hole in the walls no one knows about.
Every place mentioned in this thread is talked about on chow.com

But what % of tourists to NO are on chow.com? Very few.
And I like the Acme in Metairie.

Jazz Fest is different.
A Normal weekend you won't find many tourists in these places outside the really well known eateries. Commanders, Emerils, etc.
There are so many people in town for jazz fest you are bound to run into tourists. A lot of them have been coming for years. They just know what's good.

This thread has really brought up some interesting topics. I think the line between "tourist trap" and a regular good restaurant in N.O. is very had to find.
Just because alot of tourist visit a place does it make it bad? Just because a restaurant is in a touristy area, does that make it a tourist trap?
There has been some good points in this thread.

Here's an example - Mother's. Do I think Mother's is great? No. But it doesn't deserve 1/2 the opprobrium that's heaped upon it by the F&D Board cognoscenti. If Mother's was just some local po-boy shop nobody would have any strong opinion on it one way or another. But because it's well-known and full of tourists, it gets criticized to high heaven. To some people, the fact that tourists like it somehow makes it much worse than it would be if it was half empty all the time.
