Shoney's on College.

If you want to fight me about this, meet me at the old Shoney's parking lot on College. Pretty sure it's a Panda Express or some shite now.

Chalet Brandt- might have been the only Michelin 3 star in BR at the time?
I had a copy of The Underground Gourmet (I got it in the mid '80s, but I think it was published around 10 yrs earlier) that lauded this place.

I certainly never went there and don't recall even seeing it. Where was it? Do you know when it closed?

Back in the day, Shoney's wasn't bad at all. That was before they added that nasty arse greasy breakfast buffet.

It was located where the Velvet cactus is located (maybe the exact same property, if not, real close.) Probably closed in the 90's.
His son made a couple of runs- but he never had quite the success of his dad.

Mirror Steak House was really a hidden gem back in the day
This. Seems like they had a location down towards the cloverleaf (190 @ 61) back in the day. By the time I came along, it was down off Jefferson/Tiger Bend.

Dated a girl that lived around the corner, and she had me take her there one time for a birthday. (21 ). Anyway, I got hooked on their steaks and ate there just about every Friday night for a year or so. Good times.

There was a Western Sizzlin' (I think) in Gonzales (I think) that had a very reasonably priced steak and shrimp special

There was a bonanza in Baker by the old Sears store. It was a treat to go on a Friday night.
Also, the Seafood cabin in Baker on Dyer Rd. It burned several years ago but had great shrimp and catfish.

Yep. I worked at Outback Steakhouse in 94 and the waiters would brag about taking dates to Chalet Brandt.

It was by far Baton Rouge's nicest restaurant, Jacket Required and all.
