not for an order at the counter burger joint though
cash only is a PIA at places like moscas where you don't know what your check will be, but a twenty will cover you at bens or buds no problem
walk in, go to ATM, get a twenty, order and eat
I see no reason why taking credit cards will impact his business in any way except negatively

While I ain't against doing credit cards, but I just doubt it's the reason for lower sales. You've been there for what, 16 years, and during that time you were cash only? And during that time, particularly at night, were busy as frick, correct?
So no, your problem ain't with not accepting credit cards. The people who live and work around you already know you don't, and they've been knowing that for years.
So why aren't those people coming around much anymore? It could be the competition. It could be the restaurant just ain't what it use to be. I'm sure the name change and such due to the franchise thing may have a lot to do with it, but I'm also sure that if things were going great with Bud's, you wouldn't have dumped them. So, even though the new terms weren't agreeable to you, I'm guessing you were in a sales slump before you dumped Buds.
You need to take a long and hard look at your place from the customer's perspective. You are pinching your pennies because sales aren't where they use to be or where they should be. The only way you're going to boost sales is by getting more customers, either new ones or getting the old ones to come back and more often. But you ain't gonna increase sales unless you find out why they ain't coming as much.
I can makes suggestions, but the suggestions would be based on limited info. But based on just looking at your place online, your restaurant looks run down, that's in need of a major face lift. A face lift that people will see and take notice of. But then again, looks just don't matter sometimes. It really depends on the people who live and work in the area and what they have come to expect from restaurants in the area. So, like I said, you have to see things through their eyes. If you aren't living up to their expectations, then they will go elsewhere. And if they are going elsewhere, find out where and take note of how your place compares.
You should approach it as if you are starting a new restaurant in the area. And if you do make changes, make them noticeable and do it all at the same time, otherwise you'll be wasting money. People won't notice small, slow changes. And do it with a "Celebrating 16 years in Bidness" banner out front, while offering 50% off for a couple of weeks. (And frankly, I precede that with shutting down for two weeks for renovations with a big banner out front saying "Under Renovation. Opening Soon!" If people don't take notice of that, then something is seriously wrong.
Take the above for what it's worth. I'm in Baton Rouge and don't know specifics, nor have I eaten at your restaurant.

Baldona is a half retarded troll. I wouldn't trust a word he posts.
I run a side business that has $300k gross sales. I paid $7,000 in CC fees last year, while my net profit was around $60k. So call me what you want.
Here's some made up numbers for comparison:
Ben's gross sales $500,000
CC fees with cash only: -$0
ATM fees earned: +$10,000 (I hae no clue here)
20% profit margin on food= $100,000 gross profit
10% net owners profit= $50,000
ATM fees + net owner food profit - CC fees= $60k
Let's say he takes CC and it improves business by 20% but CC's are now 80% of transactions. (I feel like that's reasonable expectations)
$600k gross sales
CC sales of 80% (BUT CC FEES ARE PAID ON TAX ALSO)
80% of 600k = 480k *10% sales tax= $528k for CC fees
CC FEES: (2.75% * 528)= $15,200
ATM fees= +$1,000
20% profit margin on $600k = 120k
10% owners net margin on 600k = 60k
Owners profit: $60k +1,000 -15,200 = $45,800
Net profit
CASH only = $60k, CC = $45,800
So yes, as a business owner I'd love some help here in helping me out. Show me where I'm wrong here? Help Ben out. I have a hard time believing accepting CC's will increase his sales 50% or more to turn a larger profit.

I'd call you terrible at making up fake business numbers.

I won't disclose my numbers but competition is most definitely on the rise for everybody. Popular restaurants made their way into the area, Canes, Chik fil a, izzos, atomic burger just to name a few off the top of my head. Gourmet burgers are on the rise as well, cowbell, company burger, phil's grill added multple locations. We're mom and pop, and cash only, trying to keep up. When we changed the name it was an abrupt stop. We had court orders to remove every logo, sign, product with likeness to BB and to be honest it was a nightmare trying to do it overnight. I disclosed to BB I was rejecting the agreement and no longer pursuing a contract at 8am on August 1st had a messenger hand deliver a lawsuit packet at 5pm that same day. Our signs menu boards, ticket books, menu papers, cups, Togo bags, sandwich bags became illegal the second that lawsuit hit my desk. We weren't allowed to use any of it. I had to reinvent a new business on the spot, while we were open, and depend on other businesses to do their jobs ( logos, paper printing, cups, food, sign company) every single thing about us was being watched, recorded, and written down to use in court against us. tons of rumors were spread about me that to a customer would instantly draw them away from us. From things like "ben was bud's brother" "ben was bud's dead son so they renamed a location for him" "ben is an out of state guy that bought buds and is trying to change it". The very first post in this thread that shows the Facebook nerds was an example things I had to read everyday. Customers would walk in, curse me or my employees out and leave.
Not that this is important to you all but I want to be clear that the reason for the slow times is 100% the name change. We went from being everyone's favorite BB location to the devil in one day. Understandably and out of my control It caused mass confusion, frustration, and for the die hards who think BB is a gift from God himself it made us the instant enemy.
Our place may need a facelift sure I will agree but it worked for 16 years, the cows on the walls is not the reason we dropped off.
Credit cards should have been added a long time ago, that may be a necessary expense, the most important thing right now is our reputation needs to go back to before the change. The only way to do that is to gain the trust from customers again and convince them to give us an honest shot. That's easier said than done I've been trying different things for almost a year now and now I'm started to slowly see results. i cant tell you how many people cursed me out at the register(not knowing who I was) tried us out anyway, walked back up to me after they ate and apologized.
I'm def gonna put an article out there on Nola once my lawyer approves of what I have to say of course. I think that's a great idea.
Sorry for the long post but shoutout to the guy who approached me yesterday in the parking lot and said he read about us on tiger droppings. You the real MVP
I'm heading to the restaurant right now if anyone wants to try us out I'll be there at 5. I'll hook you up while I'm there if you mention this post to me.

Just don't change the sauce Ben!!! I went there a while back and I couldn't tell the difference with anything that I ordered....and I mean that in a good way. I was nervous walking in the first time
I love Buds. Special place in my heart. Always stop by everytime I'm back home. It's the little things. Shaved ice, shredded cheese, delicious sauce....please never stop being 24/7
You are my best friend Ben and you dont even know it.

Yeah I recognize you from past orders. Meat and cheese no bread. Just looked to see who took the picture. let me know how you like the sauce. It's def different than the buds sauce, it's more like a traditional hickory BBQ sauce in my opinion. It's killer with nuggets, smoked sausage, and chicken sandwiches also.

haha, you went back to check the camera footage? That's funny. I saw you said you were gonna be there, but I was planing to head there anyway. Figured I'd take a pic for the board.
Burgers good enough to eat by themselves, as you said. I usually bring them home and make a little burger salad out of them. Sauce was good too. I just tried a little bit of it. Prob less smokey than I remember the Buds sauce.

Glad to see you engaging and responding to customer requests. I will swing by next time I'm in NOLA

I left around 7. I can see the cameras on my phone. I see you into the keto diet. I tried that for a while. It worked but I missed pizza too much to stick with it.
Yeah the customer's are the reason I have a job if I don't engage with them I wouldn't last long. The way I see it I can sit in the back like the wizard of oz or I can be personable and make relationships with my customers. That goes a long way.

This may not be a popular idea here but maybe you could try to get on Tom Fitzmorris' show and explain the story. He may not be extremely popular as he once was but people do talk about what he discusses on there.

Those comments might be the most pathetic thing I've ever read.
I have no idea about any of this, but the name alone should tell these tards that it's almost surely a change in name only.

I'll do my best to stop by sometime this week. Gotta respect someone who will come on here to clear up things and take suggestions.
