I am in the process of opening a new pizza place in south Livingston Parish, we will have beer and wine to start. I need some help narrowing down my beer choices.

I doubt I will be carrying Miller and Coors and the products that Creasant Crown carries. Apparently, there is no outside salesperson and the inside salesperson was not interested in my business.

Champagne out of Covington carries bud, plus Goose Island, Stella, Parish, GnarlyRogue, St Arnald, Sweetwater, Warsteiner, Founders, New Belgium, Parish, Urban South, Port Orleans, Tin Roof Southern Prohibition, Lazy Magnolia, Bayou Teche, plus a few more.

The only craft beers carried in restaurants down here is juicer on draft in 2 places, I was told it sells pretty well. The grocery store stocks a good variety of craft beers and does pretty well.

I need to narrow down my list to carry the staple beers like Bud lite, etc. I want to carry some common crafts from the bigger local places plus one or two beers that a beer connoisseur eating pizza would appreciate having on the menu. I will probably carry 14-18 beers on the menu.

Picture for your troubles:

I'd focus more on they style of beers than actual breweries.

Start with Bud products - at minimum have Budweiser, Bud Light, and Michelob Ultra.

Then I'd have a couple of international beers - Stella, Corona(girls love this shite for some reason) and maybe Guinness.

Then I'd have a couple of pale ales, couple of IPA's, an amber ale, a stout, and a porter. Not knowing your area, I'd probably lean towards having some of the bigger craft brewers well represented - Sierra Nevada, New Belgium, and maybe Sweetwater. Then add a few of the local ones. Something like this...

New Belgium Fat Tire
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
Sweetwater IPA
Parish Envie
Parish Ghost In the Machine
A Gnarly IPA
Founder's Breakfast Stout

Then adjust after you open based on sales/requests.

It's been a while since I've been, but the Port Allen Rotolos probably has a tap list similar to what you'd want. Standard BMC (domestic), international beers such as XX, Corona, Stella. Add in recognizable craft labels such as Blue Moon, Sam Adams, New Belgium, and finish with 5 or so rotating taps for local brands like Tin Roof, Parish, and Gnarly Barley.

I don't have room for draft currently, hopefully, I will be expanding sooner than later and will add a full bar with draft at that time.

You can try to contact pelican craft brands. I know they have a very big craft beer selection and distribute a lot of the local grocery stores and liquor stores in the Baton Rouge/Ascension area

Make sure to regularly clean the lines when you do go draft.

I have no restaurant experience, but I can tell you what beers I would like to drink with pizza. Standard domestics, pale ales, ipas, maybe a brown ale or dunkel. Best of luck on your business venture

The people that said that were the people that had seen pictures and hadn't tasted it. The crust has had very good reviews, it is light and airy.

You might want to work on that. Huge hit if you don’t. Outside of Miller Lite being a huge seller, Abita products are very popular away from this board.

Life is too short to have to work to get a salesman to get them to want to sell me a product.

You may find that less is better. Learn from the many that came before you. Get your core beers and one or two crafts. You can always add to it. Find out first if the majority customers even care about niche brews (they don’t). Trust the data

Treat your inventory like money. Anything that has an expiration and isn’t moving is no bueno

Listen to Gyno on this one he knows what he is talking about when it comes to this.

I'd start with your 3-4 main domestics, 2-3 of the basic imports and maybe 2-3 more niche and then work your way from that.

Bud Light
Bud
Ultra
Corona/Dos Equis
Stella
Guiness
Blue Moon
Jucifer
Urban South Holy Roller or Paradise Park

Then roll from there.

A place like Ancora or something in NOLA can get away with going ultra craft, not sure you can get away with that in Livingston Parish.

No offense but business life could be even shorter with that stance. I’ve been there before with Mockler so I understand, but W/o Cresent you’re missing some other big brands.

Dos Equis and Blue Moon to name a few.

I'm just listing examples of the types to go with.

I have no clue who distributes what.
