I've never made a pastalaya but I've eaten plenty with Penne noodles.

Go for it

A friend was selling dinners for a fundraiser a few weeks ago and we bought some plates of pastalaya that had penne noodles in it.

Not bad, I liked it but I prefer the spaghetti noodles

I prefer penne or the spiral pasta for pastalaya. I'll eat spaghetti noodles or fettuccine but prefer the penne or spiral.

I thought penne was the standard.

I stopped at a store the other day that had it with rotini, it was pretty good.

I’ve went from spaghetti to rotini. I love rotini but now I’m moving on.

You sound like my Dad
I don’t like elbow macaroni in spaghetti, I’ll only eat pasta salad made with elbow

ETA
Penne noodles would be great imo

Rotini is the best for pastalaya IMO. Penne and bowtie both fine. Spaghetti is weird to me though.

When I make pastalaya, I do half penne / half bowtie.

Get real wild with it, haha. I've never really liked Pastalaya with spaghetti noodles. Started with just the penne, and then later added bowtie to the mix.

I really like how linguine noodles are thicker than spaghetti noodles. I've never made pastalaya myself, but maybe it would be good to try with linguine.

ETA: now that I think about it, I think I did have some with linguine before and liked it.

I've always preferred rotini, bowtie or penne to spaghetti.

Stupid question but why pasta instead of rice for jambalaya?

Honestly its easier. Its hard to mess pastalaya up. I can make a jambalaya with the best of them but sometimes the pasta hits right.

Plus my wife likes it better.
