I have great memories of both resturants...
George's has always been a great south baton rouge bar and grill
Ralph and kaccos was a great new roads resturant when the olinde's owned it...had many great meals there over the years..I wish parrians woul open a second location there...

Ralph and Kacoos is done. I think they're continuing the road that goes by the new Children's Hospital through to Bluebonnet.

Don't know about George's on Perkins, but when I found out who now owns & runs the George's on G O'Neal, I have no desire to ever go there again.

Not gonna say on here.

Smokie was a character and had his ways that could rub people wrong, but he was very successful with all the George's even though he basically let them become smelly & nasty and hardly ever put any money into them to make them more appealing & cleaner.

I personally liked Smokie, and he would always pour us both a shot when he'd get a new brand of alcohol on his shelf, was sorry to see him pass.

Well last I heard, Tony is still running Southside and that’s a good thing.

This hasn’t been decided yet but it is an option in play. The original design had the road coming on the side of it which is why they remodeled the restaurant. Now the discussion it to realign the road through the property which would demolish the restaurant. The owners are pushing for an answer so they can decide what to do reopen or sell.

George’s on Perkins is owned by Smokies son and I believe he is trying to find someone to buy it. Tony bought Southside and yes that is a good thing. He also tried to buy Perkins and was rebuffed. No idea why.

Have no idea who bought George O Neal location.

They did so much remodel work on the Ralph and Kacoos building that I assumed it was coming back and trying a Hail Mary. But then no sign ever went up and it has just been sitting there.

That was the plan. I guess they came to their senses. Sucks it happened after dumping so much into renovations.

Is that large King Buffet place still open that's next to R&K"s? If yes, is it any good?

Doesn't seem like a place that I'd put on my radar.

To add to this, the owners of Ralph and Kacoo's were planning to re-open as a Tex-Mex concept called Cafe Del Rio. That was in March though so not sure if anything has changed.

I've never been and don't intend to, but it is still open and they seem to do good business based on the parking lot every time we pass.

As a child of the 1980s, I recall Ralph & Kacco's being the place to be on rare date nights for my mom and dad. I've never set foot in the place but they thought it was the bomb, back in the day.

As a child from well before that I remember eating at the original on False River. Then they opened a big one on Airline Highway just down and across from the old Don’s Seafood before they built Bluebonnet. They sold to Piccadilly in the late 80’s for almost 40 million. And outrageous cost.

King Buffet definitely isn’t great but the food isn’t horrible. The problem is the inside is absolutely disgusting. The wallpaper is literally peeling off the walls and in some spots held up by tape. At least it was when I went for the one and only time a couple of years ago or so.

Didn't realize they sold for that much. It hasn't been owned by them in a long time though.
