I know bourbon / whiskey is the king in here. Just curious though.

I’m enjoying a cheeky Château Lynch-Bages meritage 2007 as we speak.

Nice wine, but I would never refer to a Bordeaux as a “meritage.”

I've got about 250-300 bottles.

Mostly "pedestrian" stuff--$20 or less. Think Meiomi

I have a couple bottles of Caymus, a bottle of Larkmead, few bottles of Belle Glos, some Cakebread. All great stuff.

I also have about 30 bottles of the Marilyn Merlot & Norma Jeane "very young merlot" dating from about 2006 to 2019.

My most prized bottles are ones from Australia that you can't get in the USA.

My problem is that I keep buying the wine, but hardly ever drink it.

I always tell people that I don't drink nearly as much as I wish I did.

I have about 500 bottles in the cellar. Mostly California wines.

At some point I need to turn my knowledge into collection. I don’t have a cellar or justifying the cost yet, but I’ve got about 4-5 nice bottles, 4-5 good ones, and a few drinkable/cellar defenders

There’s quite a lot of wines I want to get my hands on.

Also I just want to drink wine. I don't have the patience yet for REAL collecting, despite holding onto about 6-7 bottles i have had for awhile

I'm in the same boat. I'm kind of glad Paul Hobbs quit shipping to Louisiana. I have about 40-50 bottles that I need to drink.

I leave my collection on the shelf at the liquor store until I need it. And I only pay as I pull which works out well from an overhead expense standpoint

I would love to turn my office into a wine cellar and tasting room, and build up a solid collection. Maybe someday. As it is, aside from everyday wines the ones I hold are from trips to wine growing areas and wines from the kids' birth years that I open at celebratory milestones of their lives.

I don't consider myself a collector because a good chunk of my "collection" disappears every weekend. I do have bottles all over the place, ranging from everyday house wines to the extremely good stuff. Sometimes I have close to 300. My stock usually maxes out around the time that we get hit by a hurricane that knocks my power out for two weeks.

Yes. Did you have specific questions? I am at the age where I'm buying less, drinking more and after a good twenty years or so of acquiring wine, have really lost most of my interest in reading/talking about it and just enjoy drinking it. I was really fortunate in my formative years to have a group of friends who had a wide range of preferences in wine, so I never really focused on one particular area for my cellar. If you're thinking of starting a collection my only advice is don't buy a lot of any one wine at the beginning. There's a good chance that whatever you like a lot now, may change a lot as you experience more varieties and styles of wine, and you don't want to get stuck with a bunch of wine you don't want to drink.

Let me introduce you to Maureen. She stops in to say hi and ends up drinking every bottle of wine in our house.

Yes. It is an addiction. There are 2 hard parts when you are getting started...

1. Having the patience to properly cellar the wine

2. Being able to start drinking your "nice" bottles when they are ready. This part gets much easier as your collection grows.
