Couldn't agree more. I've had nothing but great experiences at Omi

Is this place in that building that perpetually houses failed restaurants?

If so, it much be pretty great if it can survive there.

Yea right by Essen and I-10. It has been a death trap for places for years. The food is very good though.

Can't wait to try the eggplant

This place needs more local support. It can stand on its own product but it just needs more word of mouth.

Do you think they could do a Peking Duck? I know it's not on the menu but maybe they would do a special order.

Agreed. Nine Dragon NH >>> Omi. I don't care for the ramen and bimibap crap, but some of the entrees at 9DNH, such as the dry fried spicy beef, are incredible. Their hot and sour soup is better than Omi's as well.

They have told us they will before. Let them know a week or so in advance.

Great food, shite atmosphere. Had the Republican clown show blaring over every thing. Waitress literally couldn't speak English. In there last night, gonna be awhile before I go back.

You go to an authentic Szechuan restaurant owned by an Asian family and complain about the tv and the fact that the wait staff barely spoke English, really?

Yeah, I mean, it is a relatively authentic ethnic restaurant. It isn't going to be a place you go for girls' night out and cocktails.

Even still.. I think OMI's atmosphere is plenty good enough for dinner with my family and whatnot.

I never got the knock on it's atmosphere. To each his own I suppose, but it's always been clean and everyone has been friendly. Often, the other tables are filled with Asian families and groups of college students. Then again, I enjoy the food so much, they could throw a glass of water in my face every visit and I'd still go back.

Went today for the first time specifically because of this thread. Oh damn!

Coworkers and I did a family-style split of the Chong Qing Spicy Chicken (top left), Spicy Cumin Beef (bottom), and Black Pepper Beef (right). [NOTE: We were too excited when the food arrived that I didn't think to snap the picture til mid-meal.] All were fantastic but would rate as spicy chicken > black pepper beef > spicy cumin beef.

I will absolutely be going back. I also understand the "lack of atmosphere" point of view, but this isn't somewhere that I'm going to go for an entertaining night out--it's all about the food here.

Thanks to everyone for the recs

If they could get it up to a level beyond an airport Subway, then I'd consider going more than the dozen or so times I've been.

It's just very, very lacking. The food is not cheap, there should be some semblance that I am not in a war torn cafe.

I don't mean this in a derogatory way, but restaurants run by people from out of the country usually focus zero on ambiance. I'm not saying I agree with it .. just saying it has probably never even crossed their mind.

Whoever said 9 dragon noodle house is better than Omi is insane. Just tried it for my 2nd time and that place isn't even on the same level. Very average
