Another vote for SBP.
I’ll add Dumpling Time in the Design District for excellent dim sum.

I played it at the beginning of January. Midweek for $45ish with a cart. It was worth that but not much more. Greens were ok and fairways were serviceable. I wouldn’t pay weekend prices for the mediocre condition.

SW companion pass will require 125,000 points next year. Also announced that points will not expire.

Working on earning the Companion now. With this new threshold, it doesn't appear to be as easy as earning the pass in the past--previously you could just meet the required spend in the bonus period on a personal card and a business card to earn the companion. However, there is a loophole.

-There is an offer on a personal CC that is only available in-flight when connected to their wifi that can get you 50k bonus points on the personal card (whereas the "normal" offer right now is 40k bonus).

This means to achieve, you can:
-get a business card, spend the $5k required in 3 months to earn 70k bonus points
-get a personal card via the in-flight wifi, spend the required $2k in 3 months to earn 50k bonus points
- at 1 point per dollar on all purchases, the $5k you spend above will also earn you 5k points

Total: 125k points

-Where did you play?

7 nights, 6 rounds, it was a perfect balance IMO. Stayed in St. Andrews at an AirBnB for 6 of them and played courses around there. It was MUCH cheaper to stay in an AirBnB than, say, the Old Course hotel. You can find some nice spots for less than $250/night.
Day 1 - Flew into Edinburgh (arrived at 7am local time), rented a car and drove to St. Andrews. Ate breakfast and checked into our flat around noon. Didn't play that day because we were WRECKED from the flight--slept a bit, hit the pubs, acclimated, and by the next morning, we were primed to play.
Day 2 - Kingsbarns
Day 3 - Carnoustie (and it definitely lived up to the Carnasty nickname--kicked our arse)
Day 4 - Old Course (lucked out in the lottery system)
Day 5 - Rest
Day 6 - Prestwick--little less than a 2 hour drive each way (east coast to west coast). Definitely the most driving in one day, but driving through the highlands was cool.
Day 7 - Craighead at Crail
Day 8 - North Berwick. Left our flat in St. Andrews, drove to NB to play, drove back to Edinburgh to stay the night, flew out the next morning.

-How did you set it up? -Did you use a travel agent/ booking company?

Booked everything through the golf course websites, AirBnB, and rental car. Flights myself. Didnt think any of the coordination was difficult

quote:

-What were your costs?

Everything all-in (including pre-trip costs plus everything while we were there) probably around $4-5k pp, which I thought was really good considering how long we stayed.

-Best time to go?

We went in late August and had mostly good weather. It's a pretty popular tourist time though.

quote:

-How many holes did y'all play in a day?

18 holes was plenty for us

quote:

-What would you want to know before going in terms of logistics?

Staying in one place as a home-base was really beneficial, plus the town of St. Andrews was really cool outside of the golf stuff too
Muir Woods sucks anyway, go to Big Basin Redwoods State Park. You could go to Lodi instead of Sonoma/Napa if you're dead set on visiting wineries (no power issues out there)...its a great wine region known for Zin grapes. Or road trip to Tahoe, it's beautiful and only a 3 hour drive.
Alumni association just posted North Star will be open at 830a for the game
North Star is still the place. Idk if they'll be open but the LSU Alumni of Northern California facebook page usually posts where the watch party will be a few days before the game.

Fantastic little Italian place in SoBe called Pane & Vino. Reservations on Open Table or call ahead. Sit outside so you can watch the pasta maker create in the storefront window

Can you do that even if the kid doesn't exist yet? Never really researched it but I expected that you would need a SSEC # or something?

Good point, not sure either, don't have kids myself. You're ahead of me

My .02

-Do you have PMI on the home loan? If so, payments to get equity above threshold to remove PMI
-Brokerage account: keep dumping into VTSAX
-529 plan if you plan on having kids? Never too early
Check out Sikes Accounting & Consulting. Was (is?) also a business and accounting teacher at Centenary that did small business stuff on the side. 20+ years experience. No direct business relationship with the company myself
Since you're coming from the airport, then eating in the Mission, I wouldn't suggest going all the way across the city to Lands End, Ocean Beach, Marina, etc. then coming all the way back.

Haight is pretty close and plenty of walking and shops to browse. Chinatown is a good idea.

In the Mission: Hit up Tartine Bakery!
