I dont like it. There is no situation where Cheddar is not a better choice.

Except Velveeta (with minced Jalepeno) in Spinach Madeline.

No other cheese melts better. In my opinion it serves this purpose better than any other.

White american is the only cheese that mexican restaurant style queso dip should be made from IMO.

If you have a burner and a pan, go to walmart at around noon and get a pack of marked down ground beef, the cheapest you can find. Portion out two handfuls and flatten out. Put a slice of american between them and mash together flat until you can't see the cheese anymore. Season both sides with salt and pepper. Fry on both sides for about 5-7 minutes on each side. put between two pieces of bread dressed to your liking and enjoy

It's pretty tasteless and has that weird rubbery texture if not melted.

I really don't see its purpose.

Slice of Bunny bread, slice of American cheese, slice of tomato, salt and pepper. Under the broiler until cheese is almost black. My mother just called it toasted cheese and I've eaten it for almost 60 years.

I find it appalling that you call it "cheese"

Nope. It's not even cheese. It will never be found in my fridge. Just use cheddar. At least that's real cheese.

Not as good as hog's head cheese, but it melts better.

It's fine for what it is, but it's not cheese, and there are very few situations when real cheese wouldn't be better.

It's a sad state of affairs that the worst cheese you can buy is called American cheese. That said America has a lot a great cheeses.

We do not buy American cheese but it does make a great melt due to it's ability to melt easily.

My kids absolutely love American cheese. Having said this, the white American cheese sold behind the deli counter taste so much better than the stuff sold in the cheese aisle with the plastic wrap on it.

I'll give you a broke college kid tip. At my Walmart they sell I believe it's called Prima Della meats or something like that. If you buy one pound of that particular meat they throw in half a pound of that same brands cheese for free. Their white American cheese is pretty tasty and I'm not a huge fan of that kind of cheese.

That's Gubment cheese. That's the real good stuff. If you went to public school, that's what you had. Once or twice a year I get that for cheese toast.
