I’ve got family in Houston that I routinely fly down to visit… I have a few local restaurants that I really like, ex. The Pit Room off of Richmond Ave. and The Goode company (yes corporate) restaurants in Katy/Woodlands. What do you recommend for best authentic Tex Mex and BBQ? No tourist traps refs please. Tnx!

Bbq - Pinkertons

Tex mex - I’m from S. Texas so can’t give a rec. I have never had good Tex mex north of San Antonio. I am assuming there are some taqueria Jaliscos down there so could be a decent choice?

You want Tex Mex or actual Mexican food?

Tex Mex...gold standard is El Tiempo, Candente next door to the Pit Room is good (owned by the same cats at the Pit Room), and OG Ninfa's on Navigation isn't bad if you stick to the seafood tacos (octopus, redfish, bacon wrapped shrimp).

Goode Company Seafood and Cantina are actually pretty good...the campechana extra at Goode Company Seafood makes the short list of items on my last meal on earth list.

Hopefully the first 2 are a lot better than the second 2.

Lupe Tortilla is delicious.

El Tiempo too.

Ambrizo is also really good, one in Townelake and on there in Cinco Ranch

I asked a friend and “don Chile” might be worth a try if you want legit Tex mex.

If you have ever lived in south texas you would know what I mean. People are mentioning lupe tortilla and pappsitos for crying out loud. Those are below average in San Antonio.

Any place that has homemade tortillas in Houston is probably worth a try.

The more run down looking, the better.
