San Antonio has a bit different style.
But it sounds like you’d enjoy La Tapatia Taqueria. They serve the pickled carrots and assorted toppings along with the chips and red and green salsa.

They have some of those in San Antonio. Still a step down from the OG tex mex spots but they are not too bad.

I don’t. For one there, are are probably way more wets in Houston than anywhere down here. For two, the ones that live down here prefer street tacos… aka actual Mexican food.
Do any of the places that y’all have listed close around 2 or 3pm? That is usually the first cue that it is legit Tex mex and not Mexican food or… even worse… white people mexican food ala chuys or pappsitos.

The only reason I am going on this tangent is because I don’t want the op to get a bad impression. It’s like if I was visiting Lafayette and somebody recommended surfing crab for Cajun food.

In Katy Brett’s bbq is the top notch. Small place limited seating get there early.
Pinkertons is another good choice for BBQ.
Original Nifas downtown is a solid choice for Tex mex if y’all are in the area for a stros game.

Yeap the new place should be opening up around the end of July. Hopefully they can produce the same quality. There news pits they are showing on there social media aren’t the stick burners they are currently using
