Guess you have to go to Torchys as well?

no, you don't

plenty of better tacos in town. Nothing against Torchys but it's not essential. most of the small mexican food trucks are good, or Valentin'a like you said. Also, Trill Taqueria. Couple baws from Lafayette making really, really great stuff, but it's not traditional tacos. Buffalo Boudin, for instance

I was there this past summer. Tried Ramen Tastsu-Ya and thought it was just ok. Torchy's was meh. Hopdoddy was OK but nothing special. Valentina's was solid. Best meal I had was Lonesome Dove. Nothing really stood out. Probably the most overhyped city I've ever been to.

Ate at Micklethwait’s 2 weeks ago. Ok, but I had greater expectations. Have only eaten at La BBQ once but it was the best brisket I've had.

Good recc. The best Bloody Mary you'll ever have. They put sliders, bagel bites, taquitos and other food on there.

^this.

for the OP: sorry, but Austin is stuck believing it has to remain weird while still having a bunch of "too hip for everyone" places that "everyone" is at. long arse wait is rarely ever met with great arse food (in Austin). if you'd like the identify if you want to wait in line 2+ hours for a mediocre craft burger/taco/bbq, that'll help parse the list.

we moved from there 2 years ago after having lived there more than a decade. wife's parents are still there, so we still visit.

you can get good grilled food in Austin, good indian, good bbq (but it'll require you to go out of Austin), good Mexican. other than that.... nah. I miss access to shipleys (mostly for the kolaches) and to good Mexican breakfast (or breakfast tacos on the quick), the rest is fine to go after on your one week trip in. bottom line, I'd maximize eating time and minimize waiting time. hell... go to Baby A's on Barton Springs (don't fall for the Chuy's hype) and get your limit of 2 purple margaritas on your first afternoon and then see where you end up.... heh.

Shipley's has the poorest excuse for a kolache in Texas.

I live in Laffy, so pretty much looking for things i can't get at home.

Good BBQ, Mexican, places with good/interesting vibes

And for the people hating on Austin, i'm going for a 3 day weekend not a damn vacation. We headed to Australia for that

Disagree. Everytime we visit the inlaws, we wake up to shipleys cherry iced donuts and kolaches on Saturday morning.

I was in Austin 2 weeks ago.

Franklin BBQ...definitely worth the wait.

Via313 for Detroit Style Pizza...it's really, really good. They have 2 brick and mortar and 3 trucks.

I mentioned it when saying go to craft pride and get it from their truck in the back, which is the original and best location.

You won't be disappointed. I went to the 1802 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78702 location. Since it was my first time, they surprised me with a free artichoke app before the pizzas came out. It was fantastic. We got the Detroiter and Omnivore pizzas. I saw several people getting the Cadillac. It looked great. I want to try it next time I am in Austin. Hope you go and hope you enjoy. Also read about how they got started. It's a good success story.

If i remember correctly thats the giant mimosa place right?

Correct. If you plan to spend most of your day on Rainey, Bangers is always a good place to start since it opens earlier than other bars. My two favorite on Rainey, though, are Icenhauer's and Lucille.
