Franklin Barbecue - it's worth the wait
Whip In - Tex-Mex/Indian food with a great beer selection
The Jackalope - dive bar, heard they had good burgers (I just drank there)
Ramen Tatsu-Ya - terrific ramen place

Very limited time there but...

Bangers and Container bar on Rainey were both really cool spots

If you like sours, I enjoyed Blue Owl Brewing.

ETA: at every recommendation getting nothing but downvotes.

If you don't like the line at Franklin's:

Good Austin BBQ

Also great!

There’s some shite recommendations in here.

Franklin is not worth the wait. If you want good bbq, get La bbq. If the trip is more than a week out, order a shite ton via email, skip the line and pick it up and take it to zilker with a 6 pack of beer.

Telling someone what pizza they should like is a productive as talking to a wall, but I prefer pint house over home slice because pint house has the best beer in the city. Get an electric jelly fish.

The second the best place to drink beer is at Hops and Grain.

Tie between bangers and craft pride for third. If you want a sausages and interesting bar food, go to bangers. If you want a Detroit style pizza, go to craft pride.

Do not go to container bar.

Jeffrey’s has the best happy hour in the city, and it’s not even close.

The Roosevelt room for drinks.

Handlebar for day drinking.

Get reservations for an hour or 2 at Midnight cowboy, a speak easy on 6th. It’s the only reason to step foot on 6th.

Biscuits and groovy for a quick breakfast.

South congress cafe is excellent.

Patika for breakfast.

Phoebe’s for lunch.

Odd Duck, Salty Sow and Sway for dinners.

Valentina’s bbq
Odd duck
Uchiko
Pint house pizza
Bangers was cool
Guess you have to go to Torchys as well?
If you like sours and other interesting beers, Jester King is a neat joint and they have a restaurant on site. Bunch of other good breweries out there.

If you have time make a run to Fredericksburg. Taste some wine, drink whiskey at Garrison Bros and eat at Ottos, it’s about 45min to an hour drive though. You can drive into Hye and go the William Chris and Garrisons bros, which is about 15-20 min outside of town.

There is a great bar out there off the beaten path called Alberts Ice House. Definitely recommended.

Your opinion is very much in the minority. Good talk.

I like H&G but their beer is just average to slightly above and the atmosphere is just ok. Bangers, Whip In, Easy Tiger, Draught House, etc. are all better places to drink beer.

I enjoyed Lazarus as well. Went to Hop and Grains and agree... beer is good, but not a real drinking type place
