Another vote for Ball's. Any joint across the street from a funeral home, with cops and a church for neighbors must be handed down from on High. I went there once when it was raining, and they had Tupperware over the cash register to catch the leaks from the roof! Chicken is deadly good. Just Sunday-dinner type bird with some backburn (prob white mustard) on the back end. Not front end like Popeyes. (Still luv me some Popeyes!)

Ate at the Old Country Store this weekend. Our camp is about 5 minutes from there.

Ball's in Lake Charles is great, but Gus's in Memphis is still supreme leader of Fried Chicken.

Popeye's Spicy is my go to and is better than anywhere else around BR. The only chicken I've had that rivaled popeyes was at Round Table in Waynesboro, MS. It was so fresh and flavorful, you would swear they were wringing the chickens necks out back. I'll be hitting Gus's in Lorman and Mississippi Fried Chicken in Wayneboro up in the next few months.

Top Notch Austin. I like it and all, but it's really not that great.

And another vote for Ball's. Lots of black pepper under the flour.

Best fried chicken is in Duson at Rascals. Dead serious! ( it's a truck stop ) If you are ever around Lafayette for lunch on a Thursday swing by you will not be disappointed.

You must not get out much. I can think of 8 places in BR offhand that are superior to Popeyes: Chicken Shack, Dominique's Stockyard, State Police Cafeteria, Dorothy's, Cafe Express, Owens Grocery, Ethel's, and the aforementioned "Blue Store." I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting.

Agreed. Many good places listed in this thread, but Gus's trumps all.

Princes listed.

that fricking place. i've eaten there once in the 20 years i've been in nashville and all its good for is making you gulp down a gallon of water & 10 slices of white bread to douse the burning.

there's absolutely no chicken enjoyment whatsoever going on..you can't even taste the meat because your mouth is on fire. how fun.

spicy chicken >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> hot chicken

That's the Tennessee way, they can't figure out seasoning. It's either bland as frick or slathered in hot sauce to the point it is inedible.

Y'all are insane. Good hot chicken (Bolton's, Hattie B's) is incredible. That said, I've never had Prince's before. I've heard the heat will essentially make you hallucinate.

Pure Oil Gas station across from courthouse in DeKalb, MS not mentioned?

I've always found that gas station fried chicken is better than restaurant fried chicken in MS. As long as the serving area looks sanitary, of course.

Dude try Ball's. I haven't been back to popeye's except on Sundays. It lives up to the hype. If you're Catholic try the fish sandwich on a Friday. You won't be disappointed or I'll treat you to popeye's myself
