Maybe Pelican House Owner was right about BR residents and their eating out habits.

225 isn't really up for a Pulitzer prize.. I can't imagine anyone reading it and taking it seriously.

The food snobbery shtick is so last year. Some of you really love to channel your inner Comic Book Guy.

Every single time we have eaten at Burgersmith on Juban, it has been on point. So many others have been hit or miss. For a consistent great burger, I would 100% agree with that award.

Also, for the variety of Po Boys they have on the menu, you really have to dig hard to find a better one than Po Boy Express. At least at the one on Sharp, I have never had a bad po boy there. The roast beef with extra gravy is a damn fine meal!

BEST BAR

Superior Grill

No

quote:

Best Burger
Burgersmith – 14.9%
Runners up:
Curbside Burgers – 14%
Dearman’s 11.6%
Fat Cow Burgers and Salads – 10.5%
Five Guys

Thats a pretty bad group of burgers minus Merchant

quote:

Best Craft Cocktail
Olive or Twist – 34.3%
Runners up:
• Superior Grill

They got #1 right but Superior Grill #2?

I guess their house margarita could be considered a craft cocktail...

quote:

Best Pizza
Fleur de Lis Pizza

LOL no

quote:

Best oysters
Acme Oyster House

This is Jolie Pearl and there is no debating this

quote:

Best sushi
Ichiban Japanese Grill & Sushi Bar – 24.6%

Runners up:
• Tsunami – 20.4%
• Sushi Yama Japanese Restaurant – 15.6%
• Geisha – 12%
• Sushi Masa

Tbh, the top 3 are fine for the list as is.

Not having Umami is laughable. Its arguably the best place in the city

quote:

Best Viet
Pho Café – 19.9%
Runners up:
• Ava Street Cafe – 18.8%
• Drunken Fish – 17.7%
• Bao Vietnamese Café – 10%
• Dang’s Vietnamese Restaurant – 9.3%

Drunken Fish is horrible
Ava's service is terrible and only gets business because of the hospital people wanting to eat 'cool' asian food

I’m gonna go back on what I said here bc I didn’t carry a decimal

But it is rigged. It’s not a coincidence that the winners are all sponsors

Yep. Even if it isn't rigged, you gotta take into account who is actually voting on this. Some people eat to live, some people live to eat. Hence why you get entirely different answers on the OT vs on here.

Call it "snobby' if you wish (to the dude above), but nobody here is saying each category should have gone to some white tablecloth expensive place. They're saying there are local restaurants who put out a superior product and get shafted because the voters hardly know they exist. Such as Umami.

This contest has always been more about "most universally known" than best quality.

Burgersmith? Unless y'all's is better than our's in Lafayette thatis laughable. Whataburger is better than burgersmith. The only thing decent at burgersmith is the turkey burger.

Sounds like they have a marketing problem then.

If a majority do not know it even exists, it will never make any list but the "who the hell is that" list.

People trashing any HIGHLY subjective list are suspect from the get go. Just because one may not agree with a list does not make it crap.

Did any of you vote on said list?

I wouldn’t say that applies to the BR food scene. Most people in BR eat too much and are overweight, but they also have terrible taste. So places like Brew Bachers are packed all the time, while a lot of good places won’t get enough business to survive

Interestingly they finally made the “best fries” and “best tacos” into local only categories. So now it’s “best fries at a local restaurant” and McDonalds will stop winning and making us look like idiots

Best Restaurant goes to The Chimes.

This is the one that cracked me up:

BEST OVERALL RESTAURANT

The Chimes – 13.8%

It’s one of the first places you bring an out-of-town friend, and if you’re an LSU alum, it’s a big part of your college memories. The Chimes is known for its generous, nicely priced daily specials, oysters on the half shell, infinite beer selection, cheese fries and Cajun and Creole lineup. It’s hard not to leave here in a good mood. thechimes.com

Runners up:
• Louisiana Lagniappe – 13.3%
• Ruth’s Chris Steak House – 11%
• Ruffino’s Italian Restaurant – 10.3%
• Mansurs on the Boulevard – 8.5%
