I love The Chimes. My kids demand it everytime we come into town.
But to consider it a better restaurant than Ruth's Chris and Ruffinos is laughable. In what way? What does Chimes do better than the others except serve good beer?

I think the poll should be conducted with local food writers, the 20+ food Instagram accounts we have locally, maybe even some restaurant/bar owners in categories their own place isn't eligible for, etc.
This isn't not a knock on people who don't get out much. Everyone has their own shite going on. 90% of the time I have a night with my old friends, they've never heard of the restaurant we end up at. I get it. They're busy parents and don't pay attention to that stuff. But when you have those people voting in this, they're just looking at the choices and picking the most familiar name.
Sorry, but that craft cocktail runner up list is a complete joke. We have at least 10 others establishments in this city with legitimate bar managers who created an entirely unique menu using ingredients most of us have never used. Superior Grill shouldn't even come up in the conversation about best craft cocktail.

Yes City Pork has BBQ. I feel like I have to point this out weekly. I guess nobody remembers to check out the overpass location.
It's delicious but there's no beating when they have couchon de lait.

I'm actually okay with Chimes being best overall restaurant. I define that to be a restaurant that any person regardless of age, attire, food preferences, etc. can go and have a very good meal.
Ruth's and Ruffino's are not that, good as they may be.

I would 100% agree with you there but, using your own logic, it is the one most known.

The 2 cases of food born illness from the boss lady would knock Chimes off the list for me.

Exactly. That's what I'm saying is the issue.
People who clearly don't even drink cocktails enough to know where the cocktail bars are .. are voting for the best cocktail bar.
I don't think 225 does it intentionally. But I would like to see them poll a bunch of food writer/blog types from around town and see how different the list would look. It would be cool because it would not only make their list more credible, but it would be exposure to those who never knew these places existed due to not really branching out much.

Chimes has been around and thriving for a very long time. I'm not saying I don't believe you (or that I do), but food poisoning claims are rarely accurate and something I take with a grain of salt.
Still, I'd be willing to accept another restaurant as best overall. Just was saying I could see the argument for Chimes :) It ticks a lot of boxes that go into what makes a place the steady reliable for all groups, which is how I'd define a best overall.

Right, Superior winning best bar and being runner up for best craft cocktail is ridiculous. Yes, they make good strong margaritas, which is probably why people voted for them. They aren't even close to best bar or craft cocktail. I could see a vote for best happy hour for them though.

I agree with Gino's and Roberto's... not the rest.
I like City Pork, but it's not BBQ.
Chimes winning Best Overall is a joke. Heck, Parrains (same owners) is better.
Best overall restaurant is Maison Lacour, and it didn't even place.

What’s so funny about it. Everything there is true.

Maison Lacour is great. It’s probably the most underrated restaurant in BR. But nobody knows about it. It’s certainly not going to win any online popularity voting.
Overall restaurant is so subjective anyway. I think I voted for Mansur’s. But I could have voted for Chimes. It’s probably the place I go to the most because I like everything about it, as does my whole family. That’s probably what’s driving the win for them.

Haven’t been to Ruffinos but Ruth’s Chris is just a bland chain. The fact that it is on the list at all would indicate how poor the restaurants are in BR.

But isn’t the general consensus on this board that the restaurant scene in BR is a good now as it ever was?

You’re a bland chain!
In all seriousness the Friday lunch special they used to (and may still) have was awesome.

It's a steak house. Unless you just think steaks are bland, I don't see how you call the place bland. They serve some of the highest quality of meat you can get

I hear you. I guess a chain steakhouse being in the top 3 is what is what I am getting at. Not saying it’s not quality food.
If someone traveling to [name town] and said they went to RC, I’d be disappointed.
Same for a place like Houston’s. Solid. Consistent. Not much else.

I would say yes.
Lot's of new and exciting things going on in the area.
But there's the old guard still in the hearts of the locals.
I like getting my breakfast at Franks, I like Gino’s, Dempsey's, Chimes, or Pocorello's ....
But still want to go back and/or check out the newer places like Southfin Southern Poke, Creole Cabana, Elsie’s Plate & Pie, Rocca Pizzeria, Kalurah Street Grill, Eliza's.
There's many more.
But one of my favorites (and best kept secrets) is Bistro Italia, has never even been mentioned in 225 Magazine?
Posted on 7/5/18 at 9:06 pm to MSMHater
I certainly don’t think Ruffino’s is anything spectacular, but I do agree it’s better than The Chimes.

It is worse than usual, but you have to consider the audience/voters.
