Baton Rouge really does have some shitty opinions and love the crappy old restaurants.
Fleur de Lis pizza and the building itself is disgusting. Lit is absolutely a much better product and experience. frick ordering two hours ahead to get a basic arse pizza in a dirty restaurant with a bitch of a waitress.
Albasha ran away with that one, damn.
The Baton Rouge obsession with Superior bewilders me. It’s a party restaurant that is ridiculously overpriced and really only good for strong margaritas. For them to be named best Mexican is fricking laughable.
Bogies should’ve been named Best Bar.
This list is shite.

food poisoning claims are rarely accurate and something I take with a grain of salt.
Good for you. All I know is that we tried Chimes East,no not the same as the original, twice. The first time, she was ill within 30 minutes of eating there and was most likely allergy related. Hence the claim of food-borne illness and NOT food poisoning. The second time, we had dinner there and she had the trots the next day. I'm talking the don't stray far from the bathroom type of blow out your o ring trots. It lasted 2 days and the doctor said it probably came from what she ate the day or so before. Whether it came from there or not, though that was the only place we ate the week leading up to the case, others can decide for themselves. We just never went back, just in case.
As far as the list is concerned, I would personally put Parrains over The Chimes any day of the week and twice on Sundays. TripAdvisor rates The Chimes at #8 in BR. I would agree with that. That's the beauty of lists though. They are only as good as the input they are given and restaurants are super super subjective and come down to personal experience.
I just get annoyed at the Comic Book Guy types that shite all over any list that does not have their PERSONAL favorite as the winner.

Comic Book Guy
For those of us not in the know regarding sweeping generalizations of people different from our own group, what does this mean?

Comic Book Guy
Really? You don't even know who this is? Wow, you don't get out much do you?
"Jeffrey "Jeff" Albertson, better known as Comic Book Guy, is the overweight, geeky proprietor of Springfield's local comic book store, The Android's Dungeon and Baseball Card Shop. Though thought to be an antagonist, he is sarcastic, surly, and insulting at certain points."

Now I do.

Ah, another generalization. Perhaps I don't get out to the same places as you.

You meant to say sit on your couch and watch tv, right?

Overall restaurant is so subjective anyway. I think I voted for Mansur’s. But I could have voted for Chimes. It’s probably the place I go to the most because I like everything about it, as does my whole family. That’s probably what’s driving the win for them.
Agreed.
I have no issue with Chimes being voted as best restaurant. Whenever someone from out of town comes in, that would be my top recommendation for a dinner out, barring any further stipulations.

Yeah, Chimes isn't my best restaurant in BR, but the description plus the use of the word "overall" leads me to believe they were going for a broader definition than just best food.
Chimes is where you go when you can't decide what you want (or both want different things). It is great for family outings or even special occasions because it pleases everyone. Grandma can get her fried catfish, you can get the best craft beer in town, etc. People from out of town can try Louisiana staples and even some "weird" stuff like alligator. It is loud enough for kids, but also a good night out with adults. Stays open until 2AM, making it probably the best late night option.

I have no complaints with Chimes being best overall restaurant in BR. I probably would have voted for it myself. It is the #1 recommendation for our of towners, I would imagine. They have good drinks, good local craft beer selection, always good service, good selection of local cuisine, good atmosphere and location, and the food is always top notch...
Is it the nicest restaurant in BR? No. But it fits the title of that category perfectly. It rightfully deserves to be in the top 5 in BR for Best Brunch, Best Craft Beer, Best Bar, and Best Cajun. Not to mention there is not a better place to go before or after LSU football games (if you for some reason choose to eat out).
Like I said, there are much nicer restaurants in BR. Ruth's, Ruffinos, Mansurs, K St., etc you will have a better meal. But none of those places have the atmosphere, price, beer selection, etc. that chimes can offer... It's really should be 2 different categories. Its comparing apples to oranges.
I'm more surprised K St. Grill didn't place in anything. Might have the best meals I've ever had in BR at that restaurant. It also has a great bar, atmosphere, and location. We have some stupid fricking diners in BR. We have people voting for Canes for best fries at a local restaurant. Then you have the Superior Grill loyalists that love paying ridiculous prices for average food and drinks.

I vote in this every year, and I don't vote in categories I don't consume regularly. I did not vote in the Vietnamese category, for example.
I'd bet it's the same 500-1,000 people voting every year. That wretched burger list isn't going to change if people don't vote.

The BR food/drink scene is such a head scratch-er.

I like Chimes but it should be best casual restaurant. Louisiana Lagniappe is my vote for best in the city but there are other choices besides it that are deserving too.

There are plenty of solid places here, it’s just that many of them get overlooked.
