I agree....I worried about him all evening. But, he told me that even if he had fallen overboard and gotten washed across the levee the current dropped to nothing 30-40 yds into the forebay and the water was only ~4 ft deep. One of their boats was anchored on the river side at one point. The anchor slipped and the boat went over the levee before they could crank up the outboard. They could not get back (too much current and too much of a climb) to the river side and had to load the boat back on the trailer along the forebay guidelevee and then re-launch on the river side. Damn kids!

So am i reading this right that this projection is based on Bonne Carre at 100% and Morganza at 50%?

Also it looks like they expect the water to topple the west fuse plug levee on the west side the basin based on the water levels there

around Morgan City area city crews are working 24/7 preparing sandbags in an attempt to raise the inner levees 3ft from the AP canal near U.S. 90 to the Walnut Street Canal. Right now the inner levee's sit at 8ft.

Something tells me that Morganza will be opened closer to 80% rather than 50% by the time this is done....

i couldnt tell from a comment on the page whether that was with or without the morganza. Cause it says this is what they are using to make decisions, so it might be if none were opened

Wow!!!

That is the first flood projection I have seen.

I spent the day in meetings and prepping for next week.

I was going to update on some things I found out today but that map pretty much tells the whole story.

Anyway here you go.

As of 1100 pm on 5/6

Vicksburg has a flow of 1.79million cfs
Baton Rouge has aflow of 1.15 million cfs
Belle Chasse has aflow of 1.01 million cfs (site effected by tide.

Bonnet Carre and Morganza Spillways are completely closed.

Flow through Morganza is 0 cfs and flow through Bonnet Carre is approx 1500cfs (there is leakage at the BC structure.. it is normal)

Bonnet Carre will be opened on Monday at 8am. it will take apprx 3 days to open all 250 bays. Estimated flow of 250000 cfs when structure is completely opened (can be higher depending on head pressure on river side).

Permission has been asked and CORPS is waiting for an answer to open Morganza. Will take a few days. The projection is that Morganza will open on Thursday. Morganza will not be completely opened. CORPS will only send the water through Morganza that is needed to keep flow in Baton Rouge at 1.5 million cfs.

Going to try and enjoy the weekend b/c I will be working plenty of OT. If anyone is driving over the HWY61 bridge next week look for the big guy in the orange shirt that will be me collecting sediment samples from the BC spillway.

BTW Good luck to those in the Morgan City/Houma area.

Apologies if this is already common knowledge...

For anybody else who finds the large "DISCLAIMER" box as annoying as I do - Wanted you to know it can be toggled off and on using the "Layers" feature (press the icon above the binoculars at far left to access)...

The layer also contains the column on the far right showing the colored squares and their corresponding water levels - but they can be restored by re-clicking that same box.

Gentlemen,

Tonight the Coast Guard received an urgent request from the Army Corps for immediate river closures in areas adjacent to two communities on the Lower Mississippi.  The below broadcasts are being issued to notify mariners of temporary river closures near New Madrid, MO, and Tiptonville, TN.

The Corps is concerned about levee breaches in these areas, and has requested the river be closed to traffic to prevent further damage and flooding until a the river drops to two feet below the tops of levees in these areas.  Right now, it is estimated that required clearance will be achieved in the New Madrid area within approximately 72 hours and in the Tiptonville area within approximately 96 hours.

Please see the exact closure information below and forward the information to the River Committees.  We will be coordinating with the Corps closely to ensure and will notify you as soon as restrictions can be lifted.  Thank you for your continued cooperation during this challenging time.

Very respectfully,

CDR C. C. Gelzer
Commanding Officer
USCG Marine Safety Unit Paducah

west fuse plug levee is by simmesport but your map isnt showing water there or in the back swamp area of avoyelles. which already has water in some areas. where is the water near krotz springs that your map indicates coming from?
