Is there a similar map available for the Vidalia area?

Not sure how true this is but I was told yesterday by three different people that if levee south of vidalia broke and water filled concordia parish you are lokking at a river drop of around 1/8th of a foot... Wow.

My wife's family is in Monterey, farms in Deer Park right on the levee, and I'm heading up there now to pack up her grandparents house. I think the folks in the area are taking this very seriously. This is one of those cases where everyone may be doing lots of work for nothing, but the cost of being wrong and not preparing is just too big to take the chance.

I have family in Monterey as well and they are packing it up, I am hearing that people are using the deer park levee to park movable tractors, combines, etc

So am I reading this correctly that they are expecting some flooding in Houma?

just got off the phone with a friend in Vidalia, apparently the power plant gates have been opened, but no word of a levee break....

there's a hydroelectric plant south of Vidalia, which can drain from the Mississippi into the Atchafalya basin....

Is this flooding in st. Francesville going to affect the nuclear plant ? That could be a bad deal

Holy shite, big storms paralleling the river from Memphis up the Ohio Valley through Paducah towards Cincy right now. More rain for them.

dad said it's at too high of an elevation, not gonna happen

Therefore, more water flowing through the river.

Memphis radar ruh roh
Not too terrible, probably just an inch or so. It's moving fast.

Hey Triggs. Any word on how things are going on the Berwick side?

In Terrebonne, the areas of Gibson, Bayou Black and Southdown Mandalay are expecting flooding. These areas flooded in 1973 when they opened Morganza. The houses didn't wash away, but I think you could expect water inside some houses.
You will probably expect high water levels in all areas of the Intracoastal Waterway and the Houma Nav Canal. With the water levels already being pretty high right now, I guess some lower lying area in the Southern part of the Parish will be put on alert now.
As of yesterday afternoon, the Corps hadn't released that map. They did it last night. So I'd stay tuned to how Emergency Management reacts and advises.

The rains you're all seeing near the St. Louis area are moving quick, and will probably not have too much of an impact, although I imagine an inch here or there still sucks. Does an inch of rain equal an inch higher in the Mississippi? I don't think it does necessarily.

Gibson,
Do they still have that wood mill there?
The river traffic in BTR is still open, they will keep an eye open for closures. As of right now, ships are able to move up to/from BTR. I know at some time they may go to ship daylight movements only.

Not sure about a wood mill. But there are some international firms that have paid millions for land recently.
Look, I think people ought to be treating this just like a Cat 3-4 hitting Miami and projected to be a 4-5 coming at us. It could weaken. It could strengthen. It could hit somebody else.
But anyone living along the River or south of it better start taking this seriously and keep informed as to what is going on. Small changes have major impacts.
Once again, thanks to you Dad and others who have providing such great info and analysis.
