Geospatial files are computer files that you can plug into software, so you can actually map these heights.

atlas.lsu.edu will give you LIDAR data for the entire state, though it is often off by a foot or two or sometimes more. Good for planning, not good for details.

I saw that they green lighted the sinking of a barge in Bayou Chene although I don't think it will do a whole lot of good.

thats not going to help once the water rises high enough to just go around and over that barge...the barge idea is just a pub stunt for Terrrebone Parish...

My prayer go out to the people in Memphis Tenn right now as they are being attacked by the Great Miss, don't know where it will go from there but I sure wish that the stupid corp of stupidness would dig a canal to the Great state of Texas and FLOOD OUR LANDS as we have been in a drought for too long and could sure use that water here, but they aren't smart enough to do that, all they do is walk around scratching their asses waiting for retirement.....IDIOTS, REAL IDIOTS....right there is a job waiting for unemployed people....but no...let us scratch our asses instead....I'm alittle pissed...........can you tell?

SoCal gets their water from the Colorado River. Maybe a 700 mile long canal from Memphis to Lubbock isn't such a bad idea.

Atchafalaya river in Morgan City @ 6.54 this morning. On my way to work I saw it has already made its way up to the flood gate on Front Street. People are talking about it getting anywhere from 12-14 feet by the time the crest gets here. We're putting a lot of faith in the 15' wall and the levees around here.

the seawall is 22 feet

The river in MC was at 6.44' this morning...I took these pictures around 1100 today....water isnt even over the city docks yet....if it comes up another 6' then they will have approx 6'-7' on the seawall......the walls are 22'......i dont think MC has much worry about as far as the seawall...now lake palourde and Stephensville, thats a whole another issue to worry about with all the backwater

Cool! Yes, get one showing water level on forebay side of the structure.

Was the 15' wall in place in '73 and are the levees any higher now?

It's actually 22 feet tall, and no it wasn't in place. There was a 4 foot tall "sea wall" that was easily overtopped and replaced eventually with the 22 foot wall we have now and flood gates allowing access to the river side of the wall.

The flood wall is roughly 22' ft high. That is not the major area of concern for Morgan City. The part that poses a big threat is the backflow into Bayou Chene and Bayou Bouef which will cause the Lake to rise to 6' and potentially top the levees around the Lake which are around 6'.
My sister lived in Morgan City in 1973 when the Morganza Spillway was opened. It sounds like there was water from Front Street all the way to Palm Street.

The street and part of her yard were flooded, but not the house. She said the greater threat was the yahoos riding down the street in bass boats, going too fast and kicking up waves.

Yes. I am headed up there tomorrow. Let me know your route and any trouble spots on the way. I also would like to know if they will let you out onto the levee roads at the forebay.
