What is the approx height of the levee at various points in BR?
TIA

48 feet above sea level.

No, I'm pretty sure it's so people don't drive on the levee.

Its not just flood water....its the fricking Mississippi
Yeah, it's fricking gross.
I'd rather change light bulbs in the ill-fated Japanese nuclear plant, than dip a toe in the MS.

Thanks Geek, that reminds me, I need to check in with my friends that own Smithfield Plantation.

Arkansas City crest level discharge
Is the key to this entire puzzle.
We've got another problem I just spotted, that I'm sure the experts already know about. "Project Flood" calls for 25 kcfs coming into the river at Vicksburg from the Yazoo River, which is obviously downriver from Arkansas City. Well, NOAA says that will be at 97.5 kcfs by May 21st at Yazoo City.
So, in addition to the surplus of 310 kcfs expected at Arkansas City, there's an additional 72.5 kcfs that will be meeting it at Vicksburg.

Talked with someone today that said they were holding water in a lake/reservoir to higher levels, just to keep it out of the Mississippi River. You know anything about this?

I really hope that's not why they had a cop car posted at the top of the levee near that observation point near the vet school
what page was the cop car on the levee discussed? I saw it there also

All I know are the Yazoo City NOAA readings. If they're collecting 72 kcfs in a reservoir for an extended period of time, I hope it's a big damn reservoir.

Same here. Talked with one from the COE today.
The River has a large effect on everything. No easy fix.

The red on the Yazoo map is absolute worst case senario according to the COE and is not expected to occure with the current rainfall amounts. The blue includes the Yazoo backwater levee system that is designed to overtop prior to the mainline levee to relive presure.
This whole thing is gonna suck balls for us up here.

Latest projects per Mike Stagg for BR is 48.9 feet WITH Morganza & Bonnet Carre being opened and alleviating flood water. Don't know how high the river would be in BR without those two being opened. Morganza is going to open they just don't want to announce officially yet.
I may seem like a dumbass, but who is Mike Stagg? And who does he work for?

If that quote is true, we just hit a whole new realm of "oh frick"
I find it hard to believe that is with the Morganza at 100% though. That's a huge water spike
But it begs the question: is the 48 foot mark the crest of the levee, or just the designed max of water it's designed to take?

Supposed to look like?
Rivers flood. Have been doing so forever. That's what they do periodically.

I have been reading this thread since page 1. I am currently offshore out of Venice. I come in the 18th. I live outside of Shreveport. I would like for me and my 9 year old to go ride through Vicksburg/Natchez areas so she can see history. Does anyone know which roads I should take so we can get a good view of the water? I know we can go over the bridges in both cities but I am not familiar with the back roads in that area. I plan on taking alot of pics and will update them asap.
Thanks guys
